Support The Road Muffins: Ride a bike
Road Muffins Cycling
Ride with the Road Muffins every Saturday morning from the Oceanside bike path. We usually ride to the Oceanside harbor and have a muffin (what else?). The ride normally starts promptly at 7:00am and is at a leisurely pace. Look for the Road Muffins kits with the big RMC on the jersey. Questions? Send an email to: doug@roadmuffins.com. It is suggested that if you plan on riding with us that you send an email to confirm our start time and location.

Got a new bike!

September 20, 2008

Todays ride was a lot of fun, (after finding a comfortable saddle), trying a new route is always fun. Doing a few more hills is hard but doing it makes the next one easier. Going out to Edson range was hard going out but fast coming back in, I liked the climbs although they were a little short.  It was a bit cold when we started but it warmed up very nicely by the time we stopped for coffee, the ride back to the car was perfect.  Next weekend we aren't riding but I'm going up to big bear and am going for a ride, I'll write about it.  - Dave

The ride this morning was great, even the flat didn't dampen spirits, though I haven't had a flat in years. I thought the pace was good and the distance, though I am tired, was perfect. I need to do something about my saddle before I attempt to do any longer rides. Drinking the gatorade, I think has helped alot. anyway I don't know what we might be up to next weekend but I'm going to look into rides up in the orange/ anaheim hills area, I'll let you know what I find - Dave

This Saturday the roadmuffins headed north and rode through Camp Pendelton up to Las Pulgas. - Doug

July 12, 2008

Rode saturday in Temucula, nothing much to report other that it got hot early. The ride stopped at the top of the long hill, it was a little slow due to the heat. As for this week, I have ridden yesterday and today, 17 miles yesterday and 23 today, both were rolling hills and I was able to maintain a 16 to 17 mph. I'm going to try to ride everyday this week. - Dave

The Oceanside Harbor bridge is now due to open on August 1st.  After the ride up through camp Pendelton I stopped at the Nautical Bean for coffee and a bridge update.  It does not look to me like it will open in two weeks. - Doug

One word for this morning's ride - FOG. We were really socked in as we rode down the Oceanside bike path and turned south to travel down to Carlsbad. Visability must have been about 10 yards.  I'm not complaining though, just making mention of the conditions we encounter when riding on the coast. - Doug

Rode down th the Oceanside Harbor this morning, my legs were a little weary from my rides this week so I was taking it easy. I noticed that no one was working on the new Oceanside Harbor Bridge so I rode my bike across. I believe I may be the first bicyclist to use the new bridge! Does this get into the Guinness Record Book? Probably not, more than likely the Oceanside police are looking for me. - Doug

We had more of a "normal" ride today starting out at the Oceanside bike path and Douglas Ave.  After riding to the coast we headed south and traveled to South Carlsbad, turned around, and made our way back to the Oceanside Harbor for the coffee and muffins part of the ride. The Oceanside Harbor bridge is almost complete, we actually were able to get into the harbor by riding down the "old" beach road that has been fenced off.  There were some gaps in the fence so we took advantage of that - it sure makes it easier that taking Highway 101 and entering the Harbor from the "back side".  We understand from talking to Lorraine at the Nautical Bean that the Harbor entrance will be open the 4th of July weekend for foot and bike traffic and then will be open to automobiles on July 16th. This is definitely good news for Road Muffins. - Doug

Today was an entirely different ride. We started out in San Juan Capistrano and rode along the bike path which follows the river into the Dana Point Harbor. Turning south, we rode along coast highway into San Clemente.  San Clemente has signs that mark the bike route which take you through the neighborhoods near the ocean. It is rolling hills and hardly any cars. Past San Clemente you run into the Trestles State Park (where all the surfers hang); we rode through the park, turned around and headed back to the Dana Point Harbor the same way we came.  There is a coffee shop in the Harbor so, of course, it was muffins and coffee before riding back to San Juan. - Doug

The Road Muffins traveled down the Oceanside bike path into downtown Oceanside near the pier this morning. There is a small coffee shop (I think its called the Pier View) where we stopped for coffees and to enjoy the beautiful weather. Our ride was very uneventful but relaxing as you can tell from Marian's smile. - Doug

The Road Muffins changed its venue for today's ride.  Rather than the Oceanside bike path we rode in Temecula and into Rainbow Canyon.  This allowed us to get a little hill climbing in and allowed some "diversity" from our normal routine. - Doug

The Sunday morning ride from College Boulevard to the Oceanside Pier and back was for me a "strange" ride. It was cold the entire time and my legs wouldn't move like the week before when it was warm and I had one of the best rides in many months. I was thankful to get out and ride just to stay in shape. That alone made the ride worthwhile for me. The amazing thing was that after the ride I felt like I had never even ridden. Later I rewarded myself with some beautiful cycling socks and new riding gloves that would match the Road Muffins riding uniform. It was good to just sit with Dave and Doug at Denny's and hear some stories from the past that I had not heard before. - LaMont

It was an absolutely glorious morning for our ride - warm at 7:00am, but not to warm, just right. We left the parking lot at the new park on College Blvd. and casually rode the 7 miles down to the Oceanside Harbor. The bike path was mostly empty with the usual joggers and a few other bicyclists. The Road Muffins were looking good in our new kits, we were definitely styling! The harbor was a little busy when we arrived, probably because of the great weather. Coffee at the Nautical Bean was outstanding as usual and the conversation among the Road Muffins was not shabby either. We had an uneventful ride back - I wanted to make this a recovery ride since I rode pretty hard yesterday. But wouldn't you know it, Dave had to up the tempo and make me work for a while. We even took a side trip and rode up to the Abby. All in all another great morning for the Road Muffins. - Doug

This was a great ride for me. I felt like riding today, the weather was warm, my legs were lose and  energetic. The ride to the Oceanside Pier was actually very easy and I just enjoyed the temperature. I had a new riding saddle/seat and my handle bars were much lower than previously, thanks to Dave. The bike responded extremely well to whatever terrain I was riding and I could feel the energy and enthusiasm going on inside of me as I was riding.  One experience that was different for me on this ride was that I caught another rider (Bob) and passed him. He had been quite a ways ahead of me and I passed him. He asked if he could draft me so I said "sure" and we were off on a swift pace for the next couple of miles. By the time I reached College Boulevard, Bob and I had been averaging between 15 and 16 miles per hour the entire 2 miles. Doug and Dave were coming back from climbing Abby Hill  (home of the nuns) and trying their best to catch me but Bob and I were in our own fast paced zone and riding well. After the ride I felt great and found this to be one of the best days ever in riding. - LaMont
