Steve Tilford, master of cycling disciplines, dies at 57 after traffic accident.

He was 57 years old. A five-time masters world mountain-bike champion and two-time masters world cyclocross champion, Tilford was traveling with his friend, Vincent Davis, when their van struck an overturned truck that had turned over.

Both men survived the initial collision and exited their vehicle. Shortly after, Tilford, who had been driving, was standing next to the van and was killed when a semi struck the van from behind."

"American ultracyclist Amanda Coker has broken Kurt Seravogel's record of 76,076 miles for the greatest distance ridden on a bike in a year - and she's done it with 40 days to spare.

Since setting out on 5 May last year, the 24-year-old has ground out an incredible 233.74 miles a day on average.

But as the 12 months have gone on, she’s pushed up her daily distance – in the past fortnight, for instance, she’s only dropped below 260 miles on one day, and even then, she clocked up 247.5 miles."

Michele Ferrari handed 18-month prison sentence.

"Michele Ferrari has been handed a prison sentence of a year and a half for helping Italian biathlete Daniel Taschler to dope.

The period in question dates back to the 2010-2011 season, with an intercepted phone call apparently showing Ferrari gave Taschler advice on how to take EPO.

Daniel Taschler, 28, was a member of Italy’s B squad when the inquiry surfaced and he was immediately suspended."

Boonen goes out in style at final Tour of Flanders.

"Tom Boonen was true to his pre-race declaration that he would not be content to sit in the peloton during his 15th and final Tour of Flanders.

The Belgian took on the ‘trequartista' role for Quick Step Floors, ensuring his team was in prime position at the foot of the Muur van Geraardsbergen where the race unexpectedly was made.

Ultimately, Boonen finished the race in 37th position, but only after he had set up teammate Philippe Gilbert for the win."

In one of the videos Trek produced to promote the race, the budding groundskeeper signed off with a cryptic “retirement sucks.”"

SSCXWC Adds Three Significant Letters – UCI to Sanction Singlespeed Worlds.

"The UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) has added another World Championship race to its roster by agreeing to sanction and regulate the Singlespeed Cyclocross World Championships (SSCXWC).

From a strategic standpoint, the UCI seems to be targeting crowd-pleasing events. Earlier this year, they resurrected the Cross-Country Eliminator format, and even included a Georgia U.S. stop for the race."
