Tour of California to replace motorcycles with electric motos during time trial.

"The Amgen Tour of California has announced a partnership with California based Zero Motorcycles to use electric motorcycles during the crucial Stage 6 Big Bear Lake time trial on May 19.

The time trial begins at an elevation of 6,752 feet, is 14.2 miles long and climbs a total of 400 feet."

UCI bans Grivko for punching Kittel in the face.

"The UCI announced today that it has banned Andriy Grivko (Astana) for 45 days, beginning on May 1, 2017, for an incident that took place during the Dubai Tour in February.

The incident happened on stage 3, where aggressive riding in the crosswinds led to a fight for position that ended up with Grivko punching Marcel Kittel (Quick Step Floors) in the face."

Tour of the Gila: Young wins stage 2 at Fort Bayard.

"Eric Young (Rally Cycling) out-kicked Travis McCabe (UnitedHealthcare) to win stage 2 at the 2017 Tour of the Gila in a bunch sprint at the end of 120.7km of racing.

Young narrowly edged McCabe at the line at Fort Bayard as Jose Aguirre (Canel's Specialized) crossed next for third.

Young’s teammate Matteo Dal-Cin finished safely in the bunch to hold onto the overall race lead he earned with the stage 1 win."

Tour of the Alps: Montaguti wins stage 4.

"Matteo Montaguti (AG2R La Mondiale) narrowly out-sprinted Thibaut Pinot (FDJ) to claim Thursday’s fourth stage of the Tour of the Alps.

The day came down to a high-speed bunch finish after a spirited break was brought to heel inside the last three kilometers.

Pinot hit the front early in the ensuing sprint, leading into the final 50 meters of the finishing straight, but Montaguti surged past just before the line to take the win. BMC’s Rohan Dennis was a close third behind Pinot."

Tour of Croatia: Ruffoni sprints to stage 3 victory.

"Nicola Ruffoni won the third stage of the Tour of Croatia on Thursday, proving fastest in a bunch kick in Zadar.

The Italian enjoyed an excellent lead out from his Bardiani CSF squad, opening up his sprint at the head of the pack as his final man pulled off the front with around 200 meters to go."

Valgren escapes serious injury after Fleche Wallonne crash.

Immediately after the crash Valgren was sent to the hospital of the city of Huy for detailed medical research. A computer tomography has been held as well as a few stitches have been applied.

Fortunately, the research did not reveal any fracture or other serious injuries."

Cycling to work slashes risk of heart disease and cancer, major study finds.

"A study of more than a quarter of a million people across the UK has found that cycling to work slashes the risk of contracting heart disease and cancer.

An editorial in the BMJ, which published the study (link is external), says its findings “are a clear call for political action on active commuting.”

Researchers from the University of Glasgow found that compared to people who commuted by car or on public transport, regular commuter cyclists were 41 per cent less likely to die from any cause."

"Chloe Dygert Owen of Sho-Air TWENTY20 Cycling earned two world titles this past weekend at the 2017 UCI Track Cycling World Championships presented by Tissot, in Hong Kong.

Dygert Owen took the Women’s Individual Pursuit after anchoring the U.S. team in their Team Pursuit victory.

In qualifying, Dygert Owen was only seven-tenths of a second off the world record, and she decisively won the final against Ashlee Ankudinoff of Australia.
