Giro Stage 2: Sardinian Shakeup On Tap.
"The
second leg of the Giro d’Italia's Sardinian adventure takes
the race inland a bit and over some harder climbs, with the

Garmin Edge 820 Review: The cycling aid you'll
want to hurl off a mountain.
"Many
cyclists have a love-hate relationship with their Garmin GPS

Love, because they allow them to ride complex routes in unknown territory while collecting data about distance and speed, plus geekier pro metrics such as cadence and power with accessories. The hate sets in when they don’t behave as they’re supposed to." (theguardian.com) May 5, 2017

Much ado about nothing: Who cares about sexual
orientation in the pro peloton?
"I’ve
have never publicly announced this before but yes, I am one
of these peloton lesbians who are apparently so interesting
to the general public.
I could have written about this and put my name to it, but quite frankly my sexual orientation is nobody else's business. If we’re to believe this column, and the subsequent reply written in response to some of the not so positive feedback, then there is huge interest in the sexuality of the female peloton and it’s something to be talked about. I personally find this hard to believe; and if it is true then it’s a bit sad." (cyclingtips.com.au) May 4, 2017
Wind Tunnel Time: Is the Wahoo ELEMNT BOLT
actually the fasted bike computer?
"When it
comes to companies making marketing claims about all sorts

They’ll use terms like ‘better than’ or ‘faster than’ - without numerical qualifiers, or they’ll use other terms that imply greatness but stop short of giving you concrete details. In most cases, that’s because it protects the company in case someone finds a way to call them out on being incorrect. So when Wahoo made two specific claims upon launching the Wahoo ELEMNT BOLT earlier this year, I immediately started plotting on how to put them to the test." (dcrainmaker.com) May 4, 2017

Miguel Indurain: Disc brakes are not good for
racing.
"In an
interview with Cyclist, Miguel Indurain talked about
his Hour Record and the debate raging around racing with
disc brakes.
“When I did the Hour Record, I reached 53.04km,” said Indurain. “Materials and technology have changed, so I think my record and Wiggins’ 54km are on the same level.” Indurain has waded into the disc brake debate, saying that he thinks that they are dangerous in races." (cycling.today) May 2, 2017
Is this the new Shimano Ultegra groupset?
"Where
Dura-Ace leads, Ultegra undoubtedly follows. Last summer
Shimano unveiled its latest Dura-Ace 9100-series groupsets,
and photos shared on Instagram a few days reveal what
appears to be the new Ultegra.
You can't keep anything secret these days. That there will be a new version of Ultegra coming soon is no surprise, but when it’s coming is unknown. We'd guess at a 2018 model year with the launch later this year, making it roughly since the launch of the new Dura-Ace, which roughly follows with previous Ultegra launches." (road.cc) May 2, 2017
Diego Rosa: It’s another level at Team Sky
compared to Astana.
"Italian
Diego Rosa says that compared to previous teams Astana and
Androni Giocattoli he found new level of training and race
preparation when he joined Team Sky this winter.
“They looked after us closely in Astana, but it’s another level in Sky,” Rosa told Cycling Weekly. “Sky is very organized. They don’t leave you without anything, they look after every small detail. The cyclists can just think about riding 100 per cent." (cyclingweekly.co.uk) May 2, 2017
‘Who came up with this shit?’ – Giro d’Italia
best descender prize attracts criticism from riders.
"The
100th edition of the Giro d’Italia, which begins Friday in
Sardinia, will feature a prize for the best descender as
determined by 10 timed descents.
The news has been met with incredulity and criticism, with professional riders and cycling fans alike questioning the wisdom of such a move. In the light of the recent death of 21-year-old American rider Chad Young, who crashed on a descent in the Tour of the Gila, some riders have condemned the prize, branding it as a “life threatening idea." "Last
winter, Team LottoNL Jumbo has signed Stef Clement and
Jurgen van den Broeck especially for the tough third week.
It is obvious that they will be part of the team traveling to Sardinia for the start of the 100th Giro d’Italia this Friday. Besides Kruijswijk and Clement, the Dutch team will attend with Twan Castelijns, Jos van Emden, Bram Tankink and Martijn Keizer." (cycling.today) May 2, 2017
Xpedo Sheds Grams, Goes Pro with CXR Pedals.
"Looking
to shed weight from Shimano SPD pedals but don’t want to
switch pedals on all your bikes?
Or hoping to add a bit of colorful bling to your ride? Xpedo's annodized CXR cyclocross oriented clipless pedals have been one of our favorite non-Shimano alternatives (the Ritchey XC being another), and it’s a gram-shaving option. The steel axle version of the CXR comes in a bit lighter than Shimano’s XTR version and has an MSRP that’s $70 less." (cxmagazine.com) (C. Lee) May 2, 2017
Alex Edmondson primed for debut Giro after
breakout spring: ‘I definitely didn’t see this coming’.
"When
commentators mistook a flying Alex Edmondson (Orica Scott)
for teammate Michael Albasini in the closing meters of stage
two of last week’s Tour de Romandie, it was a reasonable
mistake to make.
After all, Albasini had won the first stage, and very few expected track star Edmondson to contest the finale of such a hard stage in such horrible conditions." (cyclingtips.com) May 2, 2017

discipline the Italian for directing racial slurs at FDJ’s
Kevin Reza during the Tour de Romandie’s stage 3.

The boy from Pittsburgh who won the 1924 Giro.
"The
boy from Pittsburgh was not Andy Hampsten, winner of the
1988 Giro. No, the first American-born Giro d’Italia winner
was an Italian named Giuseppe Enrici. In 1924 the Giro was
only 11 years old.
Twenty-six years would pass before another foreign-born rider took pink - Hugo Koblet, from Switzerland, in 1950. It would be 64 years before an American rider won the race - Hampsten in 1988." (velonews.com) May 1, 2017
Huge Spring Sale: 20% of all trainers, all power
meters, and plenty more.
"If
something happens twice a year…one might say it’s
semi-annual. Thus, one could posit that this sale, which
happens almost precisely 6 months since the last time it
occurred might indeed become semi-annual. But no matter what
you call it, there are some amaze-balls deals in here.
And while my title says all trainers and power meters, the reality is that this applies to boatloads more devices/products too. Historically speaking we see the biggest sports tech sales clustered in two timeframes: November (up to/around Black Friday), and May." (dcrainmaker.com) May 1, 2017

the Passo dello Stelvio.
But the director of the ANAPRC riders organization, which has successfully lobbied over the past two seasons for improvements in rider safety, called the competition "irresponsible." (cyclingnews.com) May 1, 2017

Canyon Speedmax CF SLX 9.0 – Review.
"In the
shop of Singer Porsche, they have a phrase on the back wall.
“Everything is important,” it reads, scrawled in black spray
paint.
We have wondered if they might have cribbed it from Canyon Bicycles, and on the surface, it makes sense. The mindset is of an almost obsessive desire to produce products where perfection is the minimum acceptable grade." (aerogeeks.com) May 1, 2017

This year's tough, but finely balanced route, and a peloton packed with overall contenders of different talents promises to make the Giro 100 a special race." (cyclingnews.com) May 1, 2017

wrapped around the team radio.
Twenty-five kilometers to go and Moreno Moser is riding for a stage win at the 2016 Giro d’Italia. I’m in the passenger seat, 10 feet off Moser's rear wheel as he churns up the final climb of the Giro’s stage 8, through the white roads that give Strade Bianche its name." (velonews.com) May 1, 2017
