Van Vleuten wins on the Izoard to take La Course
title.
"Annemiek
van Vleuten (Orica Scott) claimed the opening stage of La
Course by Tour de France with a dominant performance on the
Izoard. The Orica rider made use of some botched tactics
from Boels Dolmans on the final climb before jumping clear
with around four kilometers to go.
Lizzie Deignan, who set the pace for the majority of the climb in a bit to set-up her teammate Megan Guarnier, was unable to follow Van Vleuten’s attack and was forced to settle for second." (cyclingnews.com) (Photo: Tim de Waele) July 20, 2017
Five talking points from stage 18 of the Tour de
France.
"There
may still be three days of racing still to come at the Tour
de France, but it now seems like there is nothing to stop
Chris Froome winning his fourth Tour title.
The Brit went into Thursday’s final mountain stage with a 27-second advantage over Rigoberto Uran and Romain Bardet, and although Bardet was able to trim that slightly courtesy of four bonus seconds on the line, neither put in the big attack needed to take the yellow jersey off the shoulders of Chris Froome." I'm living in a dream at the moment, says

"Warren
Barguil hugged Sunweb teammate and roommate Michael Matthews
behind the podium after the Frenchman won stage 18 at the
Tour de France, with each rider ecstatic to have won two
stages and secured a classification jersey."

Dan Martin shows he’s unafraid of failure at
Tour de France.
"Attacking
on the Galibier was futile.
The headwind down its backside, into Serre Chevalier, made sure of that. Yet Dan Martin did. “I just wanted to test it out and make it uncomfortable for Sky,” the Irishman said. He thought he’d assay the yellow jersey, just in case it was on a bad day." (velonews.com) (Photo: Tim de Waele) July 20, 2017
Mikel Landa: The podium will be difficult for
me.
"Mikel
Landa of Team Sky knows that the Tour de France podium will
be very complicated for him after failing to gain time in
the last mountain stage on Thursday.
Landa was given space to ride away from the group of favorites but was soon caught again as the top three General Classification riders began to attack each other behind him. Leader Chris Froome arrived with his rivals and will start Saturday's time trial in an ideal position." (cyclingpub.com) July 20, 2017
Here’s the science behind why Paweł Poljański’s
legs were so veiny.
"Following
Tuesday’s stage 16, Bora Hansgrohe rider Paweł Poljański
left jaws dropping across social media when he posted a
photo of his gruesomely veiny legs.
Like protuberant tree roots surging up against the skin, criss-crossing his quads and calves, it was certainly an arresting image." (cyclingweekly.co.uk) Credit: Yuzuru Sunada/Pawel Poljanski/Instagram July 20, 2017

While the bikes' setups are identical in terms of fit and geometry, there are some subtle differences between them." (cyclingnews.com) (Ben Delaney/Immediate Media) July 20, 2017
Izoard climb represents Bardet’s last chance for

France moment of truth in the Alps Thursday in his bid to
become the first home winner since 1985.
The 27-year-old has given French cycling fans hope by battling shoulder to shoulder with reigning champion Chris Froome (Sky) over the last two and a half weeks." (velonews.com) (Photo: Tim de Waele) July 20, 2017
Wahoo Rolls Out ELEMNT/BOLT Live Tracking with
Data & Routes.
"One of
my biggest complaints about live tracking on Wahoo’s
platform over the last year and a half is that it sucked.
I mean, not just a little suck, but a big suck. Previously when you enabled live tracking on the Wahoo devices to send a tracking link to a friend/friend with benefits, it would provide information about your position. But as of today, it sucks less." (dcrainmaker.com) July 20, 2017
Enve SES Aero Road handlebar with Di2

"While
it's not immediately apparent how the latest bar is

is that you can now house a electronic shifting junction box

Tushar Tech: There is No Right Answer.
"Crusher
in the Tushar is unlike any cycling event in the US,
possibly in the world.
It’s the sort of day on the bike where you’ll find yourself questioning not just your equipment choices but also your life choices. There’s steep, loose, climbing, fast, dusty washboard descents, deep sand, and ripping fast pavement. Oh, and the course tops out over 10,000 feet in altitude." Five talking points from stage 11.
"There
was already no doubt that Marcel Kittel is the best sprinter
in the 2017 Tour de France, his latest victory only
confirming his dominance over his competitors.

‘It’s a joke, it should have been €10,000’:
Quick Step critical of Nacer Bouhanni fine for apparent punch.
"It’s a
joke,” Quick Step Floors general manager Patrick Lefevere
told Cycling Weekly of the penalty. “How can you
give someone a one-minute penalty if they are already one
hour, 29 minutes behind the yellow jersey? It’s a joke.
“They don’t have to put them out of the race, but at least give him a 10,000 euro [fine] and say ‘listen, you pay all of that to a charity and if we see it again, it’s over’. But not 200 Swiss francs, which could pay for the Champagne for the evening." (cyclingweekly.com) (ASO) July 12, 2017
Nairo Quintana about stage 12: If I feel strong,
I will attack.
"Nairo
Quintana of Movistar Team believes that the 12th stage of

The Colombian is currently placed 8th at 2 minutes and 13 seconds from race leader Chris Froome (Team Sky) and he plans to make a move on Thursday. "I am not far from the podium and I don't lose hope," he told Marca at the end of the 11th stage." (cyclingpub.com) Mary Cárdenas July 12, 2017

Curious George Bennett a surprise Tour

"The
Tour de France looks different through the eyes of an

Sixteen of the best aerodynamic road bikes.

Back in the day, the design of the shoe, based on race shoes, had to suit all. And they weren’t necessarily the good old days, bike shoes were all about putting the power into the pedal and almost nothing to do with comfort." (totalwomenscycling.com) July 12, 2017

working with Chris Froome?

first nine stages of the Tour de France featured an

Studying Le Tour: Punishing Peyragudes.
"At
last, the Tour de France reaches the Pyrénées in stage 12.
After two more sprint stages in the days prior, we’ll probably be eager for some excitement.
