Dombrowski: I'm still trying to figure out how
far I can go.
"Earlier
this year Joe Dombrowski made the decision to extend his stay at the
Cannondale Drapac team for a further two years – testament to the fact
that, after a shaky start to his professional career at Team Sky, the
young American has found his feet and is making progress." (cyclingnews.com) (Photo: Tim

CycleOps Hammer Trainer In-Depth Review.
"When
looking at the growing flotilla of trainers in the ~$1,200 price range
(KICKR/Hammer/Drivo), you’ll find it really comes down to nuances. One
might have a slightly different road feel, or a different noise pitch.
While another might have barely different accuracy specs or thru-axle
support differences. And another may fold up one way vs a different
way, or be supported better in one specific application vs another.
It’s almost to the point of being a wash between them, if not already one." (dcrainmaker.com) December

EPO has no effect on well-trained cyclists,
says study.
"EPO
appears to have no effect on well-trained cyclists in race conditions.
That’s the conclusion of Leiden researchers after an experimental
cycling race on Mont Ventoux.
48 male amateur cyclists from the Netherlands participated in the race, arranged by the Centre for Human Drug Research (CHDR) in Leiden, which is investigating “the effect of recombinant human erythropoietin (EPO) on the bike performance and potential side effects in well-trained cyclists." Dedication, Determination And Desperation!.
"Suspicions and rumors have
followed the sportsmen from the other side of the ‘Iron Curtain’ but
there are two sides to every story.
Russian, now living in Australia, Nikolai Razouvaev – who we spoke to back in 2013, was a member of the winning Soviet squad in the 1984 World Junior TTT Championship recently emailed me about the commonly held Western belief that the East European dominance of amateur racing in the 1970s and 1980s was solely down to doping." "The
brand new 2017 Specialized Roubaix is arguably one of the biggest bike
launches of the year, not because the US company is one of the big
players in the market, but because of the Roubaix's history and legacy
in helping to popularize the whole sportive and endurance bike
category, undoubtedly the favorite with today's comfort craving

Ridden & Reviewed: 2017 Specialized
Allez DSW SL Sprint Comp.
"Specialized
is ushering in a new era of aluminum road bikes using its innovative
Smartweld™ technology. A cursory glance is all that is needed to
quickly disseminate that the new Allez Sprint is not something to be
scoffed at on the start line. With a Venge-like silhouette and a
Tarmac-esque ride, this rendition of the Allez seems to have less in
common with its rather traditionally designed alloy brother, the Allez
E-series and more like it’s pricier, race-bred, carbon-fed cousins." (bikeroar.com) Image: Aaron S.

Stetina: I almost quit cycling in April.
"There was a point during this
season in which Peter Stetina came close to hanging up his wheels and
retiring.
The long and agonizing comeback from a career threatening injury sustained in 2015 had been hard enough, but when almost the entire peloton began riding away from him during the spring, he started to wonder if he was fighting a losing battle." (cyclingnews.com) (Getty Images Sport) December

A vitamin D pill each day may improve exercise
performance and lower risk of heart disease.
"Taking
vitamin D supplements might improve exercise performance and lower the
risk of heart disease, according to the findings of a study presented
in Scotland. Vitamin D, which is both a vitamin and a hormone, helps
control levels of calcium and phosphate in the blood and is essential
for the formation of bones and teeth.
Sources of Vitamin D include oily fish and eggs, but it can be difficult to get enough through diet alone." (cycling.today) December
