Highlights of 2016 – Part II.
"There’s
a lot to be said for one week stage races. The good ones are
concentrated versions of a grand tour with a varied mix of terrain and
stage types. The brevity of the contest means every mountain stage
counts and there’s rarely time to recover from mistakes.
This year’s Paris Nice was a textbook example and the final stage saved the best for last." (inrng.com) November

Podium Cafe Hall of Fame.
"A
great rider is one who, when they line up at the start of a race, is
among the favorites throughout their career and for the prime of their
career is THE favorite.
I mean you can't be an all-time great if you are just one of 10 possible Tour de France champions, right?" (podiumcafe.com) Bryn Lennon/Getty Images November

Moser looks for leap in quality at Astana.
"Moreno
Moser has never repeated the sparkling run of form that marked his
opening months in the professional ranks, but the Italian is hoping to
reboot his career in 2017 after swapping Cannondale for Astana ahead of
the new season."(cyclingnews.com)

BH Launches New Fusion Line of Endurance Bikes.
"While
every road bike brand has been quick to ride the disc brake revolution,
most have been focused on targeting the upper price spectrum of the
market. However, budget conscious endurance riders and gravel grinders
will rejoice with the introduction of BH’s new Fusion and Fusion Disc
road bikes, which offer both lightweight, carbon fiber construction and
a disc brake option at an affordable price." (capovelo.com)

Van Garderen will focus on Giro d’Italia in
2017.
"Tejay van Garderen will focus
on the Giro d’Italia in 2017, with a return to the Tour de France
uncertain.
The American rider, who has twice finished fifth at the Tour, has ceded Tour leadership within the team to Richie Porte. The Australian rider finished fifth at the Tour in 2016, and may well have finished second overall if not for a puncture on Stage 2 that cost him almost two minutes." Peter Sagan can win the Tour Down Under, says
Turtur.
"Seven
years on from Peter Sagan's first appearance at the Tour Down Under,
race director Mike Turtur believes the world champion can win the race
overall in 2017.
The 26-year-old will be making his debut with Boran Hansgrohe this January, following his move from Tinkoff, in what will be the German team's first appearance in Australia."(cyclingnews.com) (Brian Hodes / VeloImages) November

Are solid tires worth a try?
"It’s getting cold and wet and
you have just had to stop for your second puncture in as many miles.
Sound familiar?
Sadly, punctures are an unavoidable part of cycling life. You can try to protect yourself by using tires with ‘puncture protection’ or inner tubes filled with sealant but at some point the inevitable will happen and normally at the least welcome point of your ride." (cyclingweekly.co.uk) November

Denk: It is not just Team Sagan.
"Bora
Hansgrohe team manager Ralph Denk has insisted his job is to run this
team, rather than solely Team Sagan and the rest of the Tinkoff
entourage.
“The group of riders [from Tinkoff] is there, but for sure, my goal and job is to create a team, not just the Bora team and the Sagan team,” Denk told VeloNews. “I want to create a team, team Bora Hansgrohe, that’s my job.” Denk insisted the team is not just about the two time World Champion and new signings Leopold Konig and Rafal Majka." will let life happen while others will make life happen. These are
people who recognize that we are the ones who determine our destiny
based on the choices we make. And we make these choices every day.
Sometimes you go through life not knowing why you do the things you do, but there is something inside of you that compels you to keep pushing, to do the work, to get back up when it gets hard." (cyclingtips.com.au) Photography by Cor Vos and Twenty16-RideBiker November

Roads to Ride: Mont du Chat.
"French magazine Le Cycle has
labelled the Mont du Chat “one of the hardest” climbs in France and
it’s back on the route of the Tour de France for 2017.
A hard climb, traffic-free and superb views from the summit. What’s not to like? Actually it’s hard work with few rewards along the way and it a useful illustration of how the enjoyment of a climb owes itself to so much more than the road and its slope." (inrng.com) November

Kinesis Aithein frameset review: Setting
budgets ablaze.
"The
Aithein is Kinesis UK’s latest road frameset, smoothly TIG-welded from
a custom aluminum tube set the company dubs, “Kinesium” - essentially a
proprietary 6000-series alloy similar to Easton Scandium, but using
titanium instead of scandium as an additive to refine the material’s
grain structure for improved fatigue life, strength, and formability." (cyclingtips.com.au)

On the Move?
"Sporza
reports, and the race website confirms, that Oudenaarde has reached
agreement with the Ronde van Vlaanderen organizers to retain the finish
of the Monumental classic in the historic Flemish Ardennes heartland.
Oudenaarde upped its annual fee from EUR 150,000 to 400,000 to keep the race on site, banking on the town becoming an enduring symbol of the race and the financial benefits of such a brand." (podiumcafe.com) Chris Fontecchio November

Osmo Nutrition bounces back with Peter Sagan.
"It’s
been a bumpy road, but Osmo Nutrition will be back online this January
with a selection of men’s and women’s hydration products, along with
the not-inconsequential endorsement of two-time world champion Peter
Sagan.
After the brand went offline for a few months, ownership has changed and riders will be able to buy the product online and in shops beginning in January." (bikeradar.com) (Christopher Keiser) November

Specialized’s Eric Schuda and the development
of the all-new Roubaix.
"It was a matter of combining
the data with gut instinct.”
Eric Schuda, who led the project to radically overhaul Specialized’s genre-defining Roubaix, can afford to relax and joke about the need for a crystal ball to complement the simulation model developed with McLaren Applied Technologies. After all, redesigning a bike as successful as the Roubaix is no small task, especially when the makeover involves introducing a front suspension unit." (roadcyclinguk.com) November
