Paris Nice: Demare wins stage 1.
"Demare:
It was a race of attacking, and we took the initiative. I
enjoyed the whole stage. There were fewer riders than we
expected in the finale but it was a crazy race.
We were chasing to bring down the break and so when we hit the crosswinds, we were already at the front before the split happened. I think that caught a lot of people out. In the finale, the way the race went changed everything. Everybody was tired, so I didn’t expect a sprint at the end, but was hard to follow Alaphilippe at the end." Bardet punted from Paris Nice.
"Romain
Bardet has been excluded from Paris Nice after the race jury
ruled that he received illegal assistance from his team car
as he chased back on after crashing in the finale of
Sunday’s opening stage.
The helicopter shot showed a mechanic leaning from the AG2R La Mondiale car window to perform adjustments to his bike as he rode." (cyclingnews.com) (Photo: Tim De Waele) March 5, 2017

Quoc Pham Night - Review.
"What
goes around comes around, they say. So after Velcro, BOA,
other dials, ratchets and straps, a number of high-end road
cycling shoes are returning to the oldest of old-school
retention system: laces.
And Specialized's Sub 6s and Giro's Empire have now been joined by the newer, more niche company Quoc Pham, with its first performance footwear the Quoc Pham Night." (cyclingnews.com) (Philip Sowels / Immediate Media) March 5, 2017

Preview: Paris Nice 2017.
"The
'Race to the Sun' is said to be the first pointer to who
will perform in the Tour de France. The top men don't always
aim for the overall win on the road to Nice, but they like
to show a bit of sparkle.
Created in 1933 by a publisher who happened to own newspapers in Paris and Nice, it is sometimes called 'the Race to the Sun', because it starts out in the suburbs of Paris and finishes along the Côte d'Azur." (pezcyclingnews.com) (Photo: Cor Vos) March 4, 2017

What next for Chris Froome with Team Sky’s
credibility ‘in tatters’?
"Chris
Froome will need to serve up something just as sensational
as taking to his feet on Mont Ventoux in order to distract
journalists from bombarding him with questions about jiffy
bags and Team Sky’s ethical stance the next time he faces
the press at the Volta a Catalunya towards the end of this
month."

"Last
week Dutch website NRC published Dennis Meinema’s wonderful

Mysterious Toilet Plungers Mark Bike Lane in
Wichita, Kansas.
"According
to the City of Wichita, drivers are not allowed to cross a
solid line into the designated bike lane. The city said the
bike lanes go up to the stop bar in order to make people
bicycling more visible.
However, it’s not uncommon for drivers to use the dedicated bike lane as a turning lane at the same time a cyclist is using it. City officials say they’re unaware of who put up the plungers, nor who removed them days later." (capovelo.com) Todd Ramsey March 2, 2017

Wind and rain lash the Belgian cobbles as Van
Keirsbulck proves the strongest at Le Samyn.
"Guillaume
Van Keirsbulck won a gruelling edition of Le Samyn,
out-sprinting Alex Kirsch in terrible conditions in the
Belgian semi-classic.
Van Keirsbulck was active throughout the final third of the race, as the peloton was slowly whittled down to only a handful of riders as heavy rain and strong winds battered the race throughout." (cyclingweekly.co.uk) Credit: Eurosport March 1, 2017

Your New Favorite Race: Strade Bianche.
"Why
should you care about this race? It’s like Paris Roubaix and
Amstel Gold Race’s Italian love-child - a hilly route that
features rough, unpredictable roads. Perhaps for this
reason, Strade Bianche attracts a fascinating mix of
climbers and classics riders.

Hour Kid: Chris Boardman against the clock.

September 6 1996, Chris Boardman killed the Hour Record. In
front of a cheering home crowd at the Manchester velodrome,

It was more than a kilometer further than the previous record, which had, in turn, been a kilometer and a half further than the one before that." (cyclingnews.com) (Getty Images Sport) March 1, 2017
Cycling’s weirdest podium prizes.

years ago, in Tour of Turkey, Mark Cavendish picked up one
