Memories of Michele: Scarponi remembered as an
entertainer, a motivator and as a warm human being.
"If
Saturday brought the shock, the news that Michele Scarponi
had been struck by a van and killed while on a training
ride, Tuesday is when cold reality sinks in.
The funeral of the 2011 Giro d’Italia champion took place in Filottrano and was attended by his Astana team and staff plus many others from the world of cycling." (cyclingtips.com) April 25, 2017
‘It’s all about taking risks…sometimes you can
pay’: Tejay van Garderen set to continue Romandie after
prologue crash.
"On
wet roads in Aigle, Switzerland at the Tour de Romandie,
Giro d’Italia hopeful Tejay van Garderen crashed during the
4.8km prologue.
Clearly frustrated after the finish of his brief ride today, van Garderen was witnessed throwing his helmet to the ground after returning to the BMC Racing team bus. Although this is not the end of his hopes for the overall title, it will require some work on his part to fight back into competition." (cyclingweekly.co.uk) April 25, 2017
Tour de Romandie: Felline wins prologue.
"Fabio
Felline (Trek Segafredo) took a surprise victory in the
prologue of the Tour de Romandie in Aigle.
The Italian mastered the wet conditions that affected much of the day, racing around the 4.8km course in a time of 5:57. Felline went off a third of the way through the pack and had a lengthy wait in the hot seat before his victory was confirmed." (cyclingnews.com) April 25, 2017
Dowsett: Last corner cost me Tour de Romandie
prologue win.
"Alex
Dowsett (Movistar Team) missed out on victory in a rainy
Tour de Romandie prologue by just two seconds, with the
honors going to surprise winner Fabio Felline (Trek
Segafredo).
However, until the final 250 meters the British time trial champion was within a whisker of the best time. He crossed the line in a time of 5:59 to take second place in the 4.8km race opener." (cyclingnews.com) April 25, 2017
Bike storage: A buyer’s guide to at home
solutions.

you're living in a pokey one bed apartment or a lavish
country estate, we all need to make room for bike storage.

French cyclist Yoann Offredo's team confirm he
was victim of unprovoked ‘sickening violence’ after attack
near Paris.
"He
was allegedly confronted by a driver of a car and a
passenger in the Chevreuse Valley, south west of Paris on
Monday afternoon.
Offredo, who has ridden several editions of the Tour de France for France’s top commercial team FDJ and now the Wanty team, was out for a practice ride with two pals when the incident happened. He said: “A car raged very close past us. Suddenly the driver braked with the intention of making us crash." (thesun.co.uk) April 25, 2017
Canyon Ultimate CF EVO.
"What
are Germans obsessed with?
Engineering…beer…bratwurst…lifeguard imposters with terrible singing voices? Sure, but we’re more interested in the Germans obsession with lightweight bike gear and how the Germans at Canyon are bringing their A-game as they lift the curtain on their U.S. sales in the summer of 2017: the all-new Canyon Ultimate CF EVO." (pelotonmagazine.com) April 25, 2017
Vincenzo Nibali: The Lone Shark.
"Going
into the final weekend of the 2016 Giro d'Italia, nobody
thought Vincenzo Nibali had a chance of winning the pink
jersey, but a last ditch attack gave him his second overall
victory in the race.
Winning this year's Giro d’Italia would put Vincenzo Nibali in an elite group of just eight riders who have won the Corsa Rosa three times. His name would also go down in the records as the winner of the 100th edition of the race, cementing his status as the best Italian rider of his generation." (cyclingnews.com) April 25, 2017
Quick Step boss Lefevere acquitted in tax
evasion case.
"Patrick
Lefevere, the long-standing manager of the Quick Step Floors
team, was acquitted of tax evasion on Monday in a criminal

Tannus launches new 25mm solid tire.
"With
bike tires getting wider, 25mm has become the most popular
size for tires.
Tannus's new tire is its first in this size and uses an upgraded version of its Aither 1.1 compound, which it says increases the tire’s flex and ride comfort. Chris Froome: ‘I don’t need the reassurance of
winning. I’ve got the reassurance of three Tour victories’.
"With
the Tour de Romandie starting today, Team Sky’s Chris Froome
said that he is not worried by his lack of victories so far
this season.
Froome is yet to record a win so far this year, making 2017 the first year since his breakthrough season in 2012 that he has failed to cross the line first by this point in the season." (cyclingweekly.co.uk) April 25, 2017
The World’s First Flat Folding Bicycle Helmet
Storms Crowdfund Campaign.
"Revolutionary
design and technology have gone into the production of
Morpher helmets to make them both foldable for convenience
and protective for safety.
Morpher was invented by award winner, Jeff Woolf, for cyclists who don’t wear a helmet because they are too cumbersome to carry. All components that go into Morpher helmets are fully recyclable and carry the same safety standards as a regular bicycle helmet. It’s totally foldable so it can fit neatly into your messenger bag or backpack." (totalwomenscycling.com) April 25, 2017
Tour of Britain 2017 route unveiled:
Opportunities aplenty for sprinters and rouleurs.
"The
route for the 2017 Tour of Britain has been announced with
organizers putting the focus on the sprinters and rouleurs.
After searching out tougher summit finishes over the past four years, the race steers away from them altogether this season. Instead, the route is much more undulating and will feature several circuit finishes to allow spectators to see the riders more than once." (cyclingnews.com) April 25, 2017

Cinder chess at the Little 500.
"I
thought maybe the puking would wait until later. Nope.
Noah’s stomach is over it, 190 laps into this 200-lap spectacle. Enough of the three-minute pulls, maximum effort, trying to keep that back wheel in line on a cinder track that’s loosening into kitty litter by the minute, trying to keep 32 other teams behind the Black Key Bulls for just a little bit longer." The death of the triple chainset.
"Triple
ring chainsets have fallen out of fashion in recent years,
but are they threatened with extinction?
Modern road bikes can come with any one of a number of different types of chainset fitted as standard - there's standard, compact and semi-compact chainsets for starters. But just because your bike came fitted with a certain type of chainset doesn't necessarily mean it's the right one for you." (road.cc) April 25, 2017

By ‘eck, it’s t’Tour of Yorkshire!.
"Will
and Conor have covered Romandie, and there’s no doubt that’s
the star attraction this week, but there’s a little stage
race in Yorkshire that starts on Friday.

Peter Sagan: There is no time to think about
history.
"Peter
Sagan (Bora Hansgrohe) has had two weeks to dwell and
reflect on his 2017 Classics campaign.
A win at Kuurne Brussel Kuurne and second in Milan San Remo whetted the appetite. However, a crash and a mechanical would keep him from contesting the finish at either of the two subsequent monuments, and Gent Wevelgem would be his only other podium finish." (cyclingnews.com) April 24, 2017
Van Avermaet still top of WorldTour rankings.
"Alejandro
Valverde's fourth Liege Bastogne Liege victory lifted the
Movistar rider into second place in the WorldTour standings
although it's Greg Van Avermaet who remains well out in
front on 2528 points.
Valverde picked up 500 points for his Liege win, to go with the 400 points from his La Fleche Wallonne victory, to jump in front of Amstel Gold Race winner Philippe Gilbert on 1995 points." (cyclingnews.com) April 24, 2017
5 conclusions from Liege Bastogne Liege.
"Two
days short of his 37th birthday, the evergreen Alejandro
Valverde’s title as King of the Ardennes Classics is now
more secure than ever.
Riders who take multiple victories in major races tend to be slated as uninventive. But for all that Valverde’s run of four straight wins at Flèche Wallonne (five in total) and four victories in Liege Bastogne Liege is repetitive, that doesn’t make the wins any easier to achieve." 18 of the best saddles - the seats that improve
cycling comfort for men and women.
"Your
saddle is arguably the most important component on your
bike.
Like that other key to comfort, your shorts, if it's doing its job properly you'll never notice it, but if it isn't - ouch! It’s your main contact point with the bicycle, and for some of us even subtle variations between two similar saddle designs can lead to one of them crossing fine line between comfortable perch and instrument of torture." "Michele
Scarponi is to be buried in his Astana team kit to reflect

Which aero bike is actually the fastest?
"It is
not unusual for a bike manufacturer to claim their bike is
the fastest out there.
They can’t all be the fastest though, so naturally we wanted to try and find out which is. To do this, we teamed up with aerodynamic testing specialists Watt Shop and headed to Derby Velodrome to perform some testing in a controlled environment." (cyclingweekly.co.uk) April 24, 2017
WorldTour Wrap: Alejandro Valverde and the Pimp
of Liege.
"Yesterday’s
Liege Bastogne Liege marked the end of the ‘proper’ spring
classics - although for those who really, really can’t let
go, there is still the small matter of Eschborn Frankfurt -
Rund um den Finanzplatz to cling on to.
The German race is on next Monday, which gives you plenty of time to try and learn how to pronounce that name. But we are getting ahead of ourselves - Liege Bastogne Liege was merely the final piece in the Ardennes Week jigsaw, as we were treated to two major one-day races in the time since we last checked in after the Amstel Gold Race." Blackburn Piston 3 Floor Pump.
"The
Piston 3 is rated to 160psi and doesn't struggle to achieve
it.
The only thing I routinely pump up to anything like that pressure is a tubeless tire booster, and putting 150psi into that was easy enough. If you're inflating a 25mm tire then 100psi is achievable in 29 strokes of the handle without any problems. The handle itself is comfy enough, too. The gauge appears to be accurate by comparison with my digital gauge." (road.cc) April 24, 2017

"Bridgestone

The 2017 Tour de Romandie begins this Tuesday. The Tour de Romandie has been raced since 1947 and a list of former winners reads like a who's who of cycling: Merckx, Hinault, Bartali, Koblet, Thévenet, Zoetemelk, Roche, Rominger, Evans, Froome, etc. Romandie refers to the French speaking region of Switzerland - approximately 25% of the country and population - the western edge of the country. Sea Otter Power Meter Roundup: 4iiii Precision,
Easton/Race Face CINCH, FSA PowerBox, Team Zwatt, Quarq DZero,
Xpedo Thrust-E.
"If
there was a theme for power meters at Sea Otter this week it
would be re-branding. Or rather, OEM’ing. Half of the power
meter announcements were essentially just well-known bike
companies offering power meters that are basically ‘powered
by’ other preexisting power meter companies. Similar to what
we saw Cateye do last year with 4iiii Precision power
meters.
Though not all announcements were of the rebranded variety. For example, 4iiii did announce one new crank type, and…well…actually, ok, that’s it. The remainder of all power meter updates were related to when companies would ship their previously announced wares." (dcrainmaker.com) April 23, 2017

week on Facebook, we asked you what the strangest thing
you’d ever seen on a bike was. We were hoping for some weird
and wonderful responses, and wow, did we get them - around
150 in all.
Here’s our favorite dozen. Animals, as you’d expect, featured a lot. No word on whether this guy had spotted a black bin bag dangling from a tree branch shortly before hand." (road.cc) April 23, 2017

How much money do pro cyclists make?
"Three
weeks in a saddle for 200km per day in the blistering heat
and pouring rain; riding up climbs too steep and long to be
classified; crashes, falls and injuries - it’s hard life
being a professional cyclist.
The average rider will race over 10,000km in a year, in 80 days of racing, spending 220 days away from home sharing shabby hotel rooms with team-mates rather than their wives and girlfriends. But for all the sacrifice, danger and pain, how much do cyclists get paid?" (cycling.today) April 21, 2017

Your complete guide to Shimano road bike
groupsets.
"A
groupset is a collection of bike components designed to work
together.
These days it usually means the gears and brakes on your bike. The term once included the hubs and headset too, but threadless headsets knocked the traditional groupset makers - Shimano and Campagnolo - out of the market. Nevertheless, the groupset is where a lot of the money in a new bike goes." (road.cc) April 21, 2017
