Team Victory Rankings.
"With
the first grand tour completed, a look
at the team rankings and as ever a
chance to look at some side stories
around the teams, rider recruitment and
some other stats on which teams get
lucky.
Quick Step top the table, just as they did last time. They enjoyed five stage wins in the Giro, four thanks to Fernando Gaviria and one from Bob Jungels. Plus a stage win in the Tour of California from Marcel Kittel. The team looks set to continue for 2018." (inrng.com)(RCS) May

"Victories

Kwiatkowski has already completed a two-week altitude camp, joining other Team Sky riders – Chris Froome, Wout Poels, Mikel Nieve and Christian Knees – at Teide in the second half of May. Wilier Triestina Cento10 Air

Riding Monte Grappa.
"Overmatched,
outgunned, outnumbered,
out-everything’ed, Monte Grappa should
have fallen in the final year of the
Grande Guerra (World War I), and with
it, the rest of Italy.
But it didn’t. It should have been a foregone triumph for the northern armies, instead, Monte Grappa became the stopping point, where Italy ceased failing, and won, against absurd odds." (pelotonmagazine.com) Words/image: Jered Gruber May

Life outside the bubble -
Taylor Phinney's new motivation.
"The
curious 26-year-old had all the markings
of a commercial champion in the making
when he turned pro with BMC Racing for a
reportedly healthy sum in 2011.
If anyone could be forgiven for a blinkered mentality - seen as a pro and con to those in the industry - it’s the eldest son of 1980s cycling legends Davis and Connie, who irrespective of pedigree forged his own name quickly on the track and road, across three Olympic Games." (sbs.com.au) May

Dumoulin: It’s not going to

“I’m

Five talking points from
stage 20 of the Giro d’Italia.
"One
of the reasons for the four riders at
the top of the general classification
being separated by less than one minute
and the top six by 1-30 (historically
low time gaps for this late stage of the
race) is that they have all been very
evenly matched in the race.
That was clear today, when, despite several desperate attacks on the final climbs, no substantial distances were opened between any of them." (cyclingweekly.co.uk) May

No margin for error: A
four-way tussle in the Giro d’Italia’s
grand finale.
"Three
weeks of the Giro d’Italia come down to
this: 53 seconds, four riders, two
mountains and one time trial.
Just 48 hours from the finish in Milan, Nairo Quintana (Movistar), Tom Dumoulin (Sunweb), Vincenzo Nibali (Bahrain Merida) and now Thibaut Pinot (FDJ) are all potential winners of the 100th edition of the corsa rosa. At this point, the margin for error is nil." (cyclingnews.com) (Getty Images) May

11spd: This week's best new
bike gear.
"What
a week that was!
There's rarely a dull moment at BikeRadar HQ, but this week was a particularly busy one - we discovered that heavy bikes might not actually be slower after all, we heard about Garmin's new 360 action camera, followed shortly by the news that DJI is to release an incredibly competitively priced 'follow-me' drone. And, of course, we invoked the rage of commenters the world over by speculating what the industry may 'force' on us next." (bikeradar.com) May

You could be a rolling
billboard, Ornot.
"When
you think of the big cycling apparel
brands, it’s natural to think of the
manufacturing giants from Italy, like
Santini or Castelli.
There are, however, a handful of U.S. brands producing great cycling apparel, all in their own backyard. This is no mean feat considering the costs of labor and materials are rising, and many brands are turning to China to produce apparel more efficiently and at lower cost. One such brand placing value on local production, and the Made in America label, is US brand Ornot. We spoke to owner, Matt Quann, about the brand and how they’ve been able to make it work."
