Criterium du Dauphine:
Demare wins stage 2 in Arlanc.
"Demare
was on Ben Swift's wheel in the sprint,
and Swift was lined up just behind
Kristoff.
Demare jumped between Kristoff and the right-hand barrier, and quickly established a winning gap. Bouhanni tried desperately to get on terms but could only manage third on the stage. Race leader Thomas De Gendt (Lotto Soudal) finished safely in the pack to keep hold of his yellow jersey for at least another day." (cyclingnews.com) (Bettini Photo) June

Victor Campenaerts date
request at the Giro d’Italia hasn’t quite
gone to plan.
"Belgian
time trial champ, Victor Campenaerts,
saw stage 10 as the perfect place to ask
a girl out for a date.
The controversial move worked though as 'Carlien' said yes after seeing the Belgian's bare chest. But since returning to the Giro, it appears that Carlien, who is five years Campenaerts senior, just wants to be friends." (cyclingweekly.com) June

All-star line-up set to
battle it out in longest Women's Tour yet
- Preview.
"After
a flurry of races in April and May, the
Women’s WorldTour took a short break
following the Amgen Women’s Race.
As the summer quickly approaches and the sunshine starts to show its face, the Women’s WorldTour will hot up again with the fourth Ovo Energy Women’s Tour. Since its inception in 2014, the five-day race has developed into a major target in its own right, but its June placing in the calendar makes it a key build-up towards the national championships and the Giro Rosa." Rejuvenated Cameron Meyer
happy with life and cycling, and eyeing a

"Cameron
Meyer sits, smiles and relaxes. It’s the
evening after a stage of the An Post Rás

hotel in the northwest of Ireland.
Outside are rolling fields dotted with gorse, rocky mountain slopes and a nearby beach. It’s peaceful, but there’s also a calmness about Meyer himself." (cyclingtips.com) (Photography by Shane Stokes and Cor Vos) June

Garmin Edge computers:

Haga’s steady hand helped

"No
rest for the weary. After racing the
Giro d’Italia, Sunweb’s Chad Haga is
back in the saddle, lining up in the
eight-day Critérium du Dauphiné, one of
the hardest one-week races on the
calendar.
Haga was a key helper in Tom Dumoulin’s historic victory, a first for a Dutch rider in the Giro. Haga's steady performance in the decisive moments wasn’t a surprise to Sunweb brass. Your complete guide to
Shimano road bike groupsets.
"A
groupset is a collection of bike
components designed to work together.
These days it usually means the gears and brakes on your bike. The term once included the hubs and headset too, but threadless headsets knocked the traditional groupset makers - Shimano and Campagnolo - out of the market. Nevertheless, the groupset is where a lot of the money in a new bike goes." (road.cc) June

Four Gravel Titles, Four

Kanza, Lost and Found.
"Yesterday
was arguably the biggest day in gravel,
with both the Dirty Kanza and Lost and

athletes from around the world.
One of the things we love about gravel is the unregulated, anything-goes nature of equipment in the sport, despite some indications this is slowly coming true. Specialized Roubaix Pro Di2
review.
"I
was never that convinced by the original
Roubaix's Zertz inserts, and the big S

Specialized began by creating its lightest ever frame with the stiffest FACT 11r carbon, which seems unwise for something aiming to soak up rough roads. Chris Froome: My biggest
Tour de France threats are Porte,
Contador, Bardet.
"Chris
Froome has named Richie Porte (BMC
Racing), Alberto Contador (Trek
Segafredo) and last year’s runner-up
Romain Bardet (AG2R La Mondiale) as his
main contenders for the Tour de France.
Froome did not, however, point to Nairo Quintana (Movistar), saying that the Colombian may suffer from the challenge of doing the Tour and the Giro d’Italia in the same season." (cyclingnews.com) June

Valverde: Older, Faster,
Stronger.
"To
understand how unusual Alejandro
Valverde is, you could compare him with
another child of 1980 who has been
equally prolific as a winner, with 122
victories to Valverde's 106 to date: Tom
Boonen.
Valverde and Boonen's cycling universes were so different that they rarely overlapped, even though they both turned pro in 2002." (cyclingnews.com) June

Pro says tire caused Sky’s
catastrophic wheel failure at Tirreno.
"Three
riders broke front wheels during the
team time trial, according to Geraint
Thomas.
Following the incident, Pro conducted an investigation to replicate the circumstances of the crash and found that Sky’s narrow tire choice was to blame. “The incident occurred because the rider hit a pothole at high speed on a tire that did not meet the minimum tire width specification as advised by Pro." Italia, salut France. This Sunday the
8-day Critérium du Dauphiné begins. It's
a fun course this year, with several
scenic, not-too-crazy stages, a

Alpe d'Huez, and two monster climbs that
you may not know that well.
It's a star-studded field full of Tour de France contenders and pretenders: Chris Froome will defend his 2016 title against such rivals as Alejandro Valverde, Alberto Contador, Dan Martin, Richie Porte, Esteban Chaves, Fabio Aru, and Will's pick to win it all: Romain Bardet." Third-generation BMC
Teammachine SLR01.
"For
many of us, the first thing we go on
when making a decision about a new bike
is the look.
If you don’t like the design, you’ll be unlikely to want to throw a leg over it, no matter how well it rides. So let us address this factor first. BMC bikes have always had a certain look, their design language separating them from others." (cyclingtips.com) (Photography by Dave Everett & supplied) June

Can Mathieu van der Poel be
a triple-threat?
"Dutch
fans gorged on cycling success this past
weekend.
Tom Dumoulin finally broke the Netherlands’s 37-year drought with a grand tour victory. Plus, Jos van Emden won the Giro’s stage 21 time trial. Not bad guys, but Matheiu van der Poel should be part of the conversation too." (velonews.com) June

How light can a carbon frame
go?
"Ten
years ago a sub-kilo frame was the
ultimate in composites engineering.
Now 700g is the new kilo. Can carbon frames go much lighter without compromising safety and rideability? Here in the UK, Richard Craddock of Filament Bikes hand-builds carbon frames using a tube-to-tube construction process that allows him to customize every aspect, including the weight." How Flanders keeps producing
the world’s best cyclists.
"Across
Flanders, thousands of children grow up
with dreams of cycling greatness.
Every year these kids fill the country’s junior racing ranks and step onto a conveyor belt aimed at cycling’s top echelon. Like Boonen, Greg Van Avermaet, and the country’s other heroes, they enter a Flemish cycling system that is designed to discover raw talent and then mold it into world-beating perfection." 14 of the best pumps and CO2
inflators.
"The
pneumatic tire is one of mankind's
greatest inventions, smoothing the ride
and making bikes faster compared to the
solid tires that came before it.
But it's also a pain in the neck, because its vulnerable to punctures and gradually loses air while your bike is stored. At home and on the road, you need a a way to replace the lost air." (road.cc) June

A Cyclist's Guide to Amazon.
"The
beauty of shopping at Amazon, the
world’s largest online megastore, is the
convenience. It’s one-stop shopping
anytime, from anywhere with internet,
which is great news for cyclists trying
to balance work, families and training.
Plus, once you’ve picked the tires, tubes, patch kits and lube you need, you can add noise-cancelling headphones, an obscure brand of olive oil, your favorite deodorant, and a cooler for summer road tripping into your cart before you check out." (bicycling.com) (Hero Images) June
