2010 Nalini Summer Collection
with New Designs, Fabrics &Technology

Nutrient-infused material, recycled plastic fabrics, innovative and stylish design highlight Italian maker's 2010 Summer Collection of cycling apparel

OXNARD, Calif. and MANTOVA, Italy – Imagine jerseys and bibshorts infused with nutrients that are absorbed directly into the muscles, reducing fatigue and thirst?  Or cycling gear made from recycled plastic bottles?   Or fabrics that keep a rider cool with UV-blocking fabric?   Add these technical advancements to Nalini's usual smart Italian design, unrivaled made-in-Italy craftsmanship, and you have the essence of the Nalini 2010 Summer Collection– imported exclusively by Albabici (www.albabici.com).

Stateside, Nalini (a MOA Sport brand) is best known for outfitting teams in the professional peloton.  For 2010, Nalini is the official manufacturer of team clothing for Astana, Caisse d'Epargne, Cofidis, Euskatel, FDJ, HTC-Columbia, Liquigas, Rabobank and Sky (branded adidas).   It's this experience equipping the best – and most demanding – riders in the world that provides Nalini with the know-how to craft the best cycling apparel for recreational riders and amateur racers alike.

A closer look at the new Nalini Summer Collection proves the point.  Here's the best from Nalini in 2010.

PROTEGO ACTIVE SHORTS AND BIBSHORTS

Topping the collection is the Nalini Vite Bibshort and Olivo Jersey, featuring the breakthrough Protego Active treatment.  Protego Active is a special fabric utilizing nano-technology that allows nutrients and vitamins to be absorbed into the fabric – and then released into the body during exercise. Nalini found that wearing a Protego Active-treated garment provides riders with improved sport performance, as well as better comfort, muscle tonicity and a lower need to drink.  After use, a Protego Active garment is “reactivated” by simply washing it with a recharge kit.

Aside from the Protego Active fabric, the Vite Bibshort and Olivo Jersey feature a host of technical features typical of Nalini offerings.  The Olivo Jersey is extremely tight fitting, water resistant, and incorporates a breathable mesh insert, silicon gripper at the bottom, a long zipper, cell-phone pocket and zipped rear pocket.  MSRP: $195.

The Vite Bibshort is also tight fitting, water resistant, with a mesh insert in the back of the back, white silver leg grippers, and anti-abrasive fabric on the crotch.  Contrasting 3-needle stitching adds strength and aesthetic accents.  MSRP: $165.

NALINI RECYCLE LINE

Nalini now offers bibshorts and jerseys made from its new eco-friendly Re-Pet fabric.  Developed by Nalini and MOA Sport, Re-Pet fabric is made from the recycling of Pet plastic bottles, as Pet yarns have the same characteristics as polyester yarns.

Albabici will import two Nalini Recycle Line garments, the Pesco Jersey and the Ciliegio Bibshort.  The Pesco features a stylish design, cycling fit, mesh insert, silicon bottom gripper, and long zipper.  It comes in six color combinations:  black/yellow,  black/white, white/grey, red/black, white/red, and blue/black.
MSRP: $99.

The Ciliegio Bibshort is both stylish and comfortable, thanks to its cycling fit, mesh insert, and silicon leg grippers.  Riders can choose from four colors:  black/yellow, black/white, black/red, and black/blue.  MSRP: $99.

NALINI BIBSHORTS and SHORTS

In addition to the Protego Active and Recycle bibshorts, Nalini also offers a full-line of top-quality bibs and shorts, all featuring sharp styling, exquisite craftsmanship, and world-class pads.  For 2010, Albabici will be distributing six different styles of Nalini bibshorts  –  the Geranio, the Cotongo, the Tucano, the Fringuello, the Giancinto and the Cedro – and two shorts, the Babaco and the Rovo.  The Nalini bibshort offerings vary in design, colors and pad, but share Nalini's renowned cycling fit, long-wear fabrics, fail-proof stitching, silicon leg grippers, and breathable mesh uppers.

Of special note is the Cedro Bibshort from Nalini's ultimate Pro Uni Select family.  The Cedro is extremely tight fitting, with contrasting 4-needle stitching and the choice of two pads, the UNC Ultra Comfort Nalini or the STP Gel.  The Ultra Comfort features an anatomic design made from soft microfibers for unrivaled softness and flexibility.  The STP Gel pad combines anti-shock gel cushions with Coolmax microfiber fabric to deliver supreme comfort.  MSRP: $160.

Also deserving attention is the Tucano Bibshort, which features Nalini's unique ColdBlack® treatment, which provides optimal UV protection from sunlight – UPF-30 – as well as staying cool to the touch.  Other notable features of the Tucano include a tight fit, anti-abrasive crotch fabric, contrasting 3-needle stitching, and the UCN Ultra Comfort Nalini pad.  It is available in black, white, red, light blue and dark blue.  MSRP: $149.

NALINI JERSEYS, VESTS, LIGHT JACKETS

In addition to the Protego Active Olivo and Recycle Line Pesco, Albabici will be importing six other jerseys from the 2010 Nalini Summer collection – the Arancio short-sleeve (SS), the Guava SS, the Betulla SS, the Carrubo SS, the Ribes SS, and the Mango LS with removable sleeves – plus the Puma Vest, the Kaki Ultra-Light Jacket and the Valdez Polar-compatible baselayer.

The Guava Jersey deserves to be called out.   A Nalini Pro Uni Select garment, the Guava features a tight, aerodynamic fit, high idrophily to repel water, breathable mesh insert, three back pockets, plus a cell phone pocket.  And, like all Pro Uni Select items, it is identified with a serial number that distinguishes it as a unique and select item.  Colors available:  red, black, and white.  MSRP: $180.

Nalini's Mango is a both a jacket and windbreaker short sleeve jersey all in one. While removable sleeves aren't new to cycling apparel, Nalini's unique QuickBurst is.  The Mango features an easy-to-remove long sleeve revealing a short sleeve jersey underneath (not a sleeveless vest).  A member of the Full Season line, the Mango features wind-break protection, an anatomical fit, a Coolmax fabric collar insert, mesh insert, cell-phone pocket, reflective tape, and silicon grippers at the bottom.  It is available in red, white, and black.  MSRP: $250.

While jackets aren't a typical “summer” item, cyclists should make space in their gear bag for the Nalini Kaki Ultra-Light Jacket.  Another Pro Uni Select garment, the Kaki is made from stretchable Mantovent wind-resistant fabric, with a mesh insert in the back.  It comes in a stylish white.  MSRP: $295.

The Puma is a lightweight, packable vest that delivers wind protection on chilly days or long descents.  It also features anti-droplet treatment for water repellency, a snug cycling fit, breathable mesh insert on the back, and reflective tape for visibility.  It comes in blue, black, white and red.  MSRP: $125.

Nalini is the only cycling apparel maker offering Polar-compatible base layers.  The sleeveless Valdez undershirt features an integrated Polar HRM strap that places the HR sensor on the backside.   The Valdez is tight fitting yet comfortable thanks to its seamless construction.  MSRP: $85.

NALINI WOMEN'S APPAREL

Of course, Nalini gear isn't just for men.  Its Women's collection features the same technology, quality construction, and head-turning style as the men's apparel.  For 2010, Albabici is presenting three Nalini women's shorts – the Tuia, the Faggio, and the Tortora – plus two stylish and functional jerseys – the Ginkgo and the Fragoia.

The Tortora Short is particularly noteworthy, featuring an extreme tight fit, anti-abrasive crotch fabric, contrasting 4-needle stitching, silicon leg grippers, and a Nalini UCN Lady TRAF female-specific pad made from soft and flexible microfibers.  Available in black.  MSRP: $175.

The Ginkgo Jersey also stands out.  The Ginkgo features windbreak protection, an anatomical fit, cell-phone pocket, bottom silicon gripper and a reflecting Nalini logo.  The key feature, though, is the Ginkgo's removable sleeves,  handy for women who like to ride sleeveless on extra hot days.  Available in white, black, and red.  MSRP:  $130.

NALINI ACCESSORIES

In addition to bibshorts, shorts, jerseys and jackets, Nalini also offers a complete line of accessories, including gloves, socks, arm and leg warmers, shoe covers, and head covers.  Visit www.albabici.com  and www.nalini.com for details.

RAAM, LLC signs Letter of Intent to acquire all right, title and interest to the intellectual property associated with the Race Across America – The World’s Toughest Bicycle Race (October 12, 2009)

Fred Boethling, President/CEO of RAAM, LLC, and Nick Gerlich, President of the Ultra-Marathon Cycling Association (UMCA), announced reaching an agreement which will put the components of the Race Across America (RAAM or the Race) back together and separate the management of the Race from the UMCA.

The Race Across America, ranked by Outside Magazine as the world’s toughest endurance athletic event, is an annual non-stop, coast-to-coast, bicycle race.

In 2006 then owners Jim Pitre and Lon Haldeman decided to sell RAAM and in the event no buyer could be found, mothball or terminate the event.  Race veteran, Fred Boethling, and John Hughes, Managing Director of the UMCA, decided to acquire the event to insure its continuity.  Boethling organized RAAM, LLC and acquired the physical assets associated with the Race, while the UMCA acquired the Intellectual property.  RAAM, LLC then entered into a licensing agreement with the UMCA which gave RAAM, LLC, among other things, the right to conduct and promote the Race as well as any associated activities in perpetuity as well as the right to acquire the intellectual property should the UMCA ever decide to dispose of it.

RAAM, LLC successfully put on the Race for the next three years.  RAAM, LLC and the UMCA decided that the original acquisition served its useful purpose, that of saving the Race from extinction, and that it was in the best interest of the Race as well as both organizations, to put the pieces back together again.  This will allow RAAM, LLC to pursue financing and sponsorship commitments to insure the long-tern health and stability of the Race.  It will allow the UMCA to focus on better serving its members and conducting its various activities associated with its role as umbrella organization for the sport of ultra-endurance cycling.

The 2010 Race Across America will be the 29th edition of the Race.  Racers will start in Oceanside, California and finish in Annapolis, Maryland.  Solo racers will make the 3,000-mile trip in 8 to 12 days and teams in 5-8 days.

According to Boethling and Gerlich, “This will allow both the UMCA and RAAM to focus on the growth and management of their respective organizations.  We expect to work together for the betterment of the sport of ultra-endurance cycling.  We anticipate continued growth in the endurance sports space and are very excited about our prospects for the future.”

RAAM, LLC is a Colorado Limited Liability Company engaged in the production and promotion of the Race Across AMerica (RAAM) – The World’s Toughest Bicycle Race, an annual non-stop, coast-to-coast bicycle race.

The UltraMarathon Cycling Association (UMCA) is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization serving as the umbrella organization for the sport of ultra-endurance cycling. The UMCA …

Bioncon USA Headquarters/Demo Center Destroyed by Fire (10.12.09)
Wofford Heights, California

Owners see this as a temporary setback and an opportunity to be better; plans to rebuild are already well underway.

Not quite two weeks after its official Labor Day weekend opening, the Bionicon USA Headquarters and Demo Center in the Kern River Valley suffered a devastating fire. The building, located on the main road in Wofford Heights, had undergone extensive renovations and improvements in preparation for Bionicon's move to the Kern Valley. This was the company's first full-time Demo Center in the U.S.A. Other Bionicon Demo Centers are in the UK, Germany and Switzerland.

Nobody was in the building at the time of the fire, which was first noticed at about 4 p.m.. Neighbors called 911 and reported smoke coming from the roof. When firefighters arrived on the scene they were confronted with flames shooting out of windows, exploding shock cartridges and burning magnesium fork lowers. Owners Paul and Wendy Ferguson arrived on scene just a few minutes later, only to watch the building burn.

Investigators believe the fire was started by a faulty air compressor, though official reports are pending.ᅠThe fire destroyed the entire inventory of bicycles, parts, frames and components as well as the workshop and the entire fleet of demo bikes.

"The local community has been behind our move to the Kern River Valley from the start," said Paul Ferguson, owner and CEO of Bionicon USA, "Their support through this tragedy has been really encouraging. They have made it clear how much it means to have a mountain bike company of Bionicon's caliber doing business here in the valley."

Bionicon has been welcomed and embraced locally, and in this tragedy that has only become more apparent. There has also been a great outpouring of support from the entire Southern California mountain biking community.

The charred building is uninhabitable and beyond repair. "We've received offers of temporary storage and office space, as well as assistance from Bionicon in Germany to get us up and running as soon as possible," noted Ferguson. "The search is on for a new office, showroom, bike shop and demo center. We have pending inquiries on a couple of locations."

The valley's outdoor lifestyle is what attracted the company to the area. There is a vast network of trails, world-class whitewater rafting, climbing, hiking and water sports. The addition of a mountain bike company and full-service bike shop to the valley is crucial to its growth as a mountain biking destination.

Bionicon has been the title sponsor of the famous Keyesville Classic mountain bike race for the past two years, and will continue as organizer and sponsor for the 22nd annual event in 2010. Among the company's plans are to take a lead role in trail stewardship and mountain bike advocacy in the Kern river Valley. In fact, Bionicon has already opened a dialog with the BLM about potential new trails in the Keyesville area.

The 3rd annual Kern River Valley Gathering, hosted by Bionicon at Keyesville, will still take place over Halloween weekend as planned. The "KRV Gathering" is an open-invitation, informal weekend of mountain biking, camping, barbecues, and camaraderie among mountain bikers from all over the southwest."

Bionicon USA expects to be back in business full-time in a new location in the Kern River Valley by December. Wasting no time, CEO Paul Ferguson replaced his laptop the day after the fire, and at the moment is available by phone or email to support customers and dealers. Parts and inventory are ordered and on their way.

"It feels like we've had a practice run at putting together a Demo Center," said Ferguson, "and this next time around is going to be even better than the original."

Tips to Protect Your Accident Rights ©
If you are injured in a crash, below is a list of tips to assist you in protecting your rights and also understanding the insurance claim process.
1.    Obtain photographs from your surgeon, which can later be used to explain your injury, i.e. arthroscopic surgery photos of a screw in your knee to hold down the torn meniscus or copies of your x-rays that show hardware in your body. Demonstrative videos of surgery help to explain to the insurance adjuster or jury your exact injury.
2.    Photograph yourself at work, rehabilitating yourself, at physical therapy and at the weight machines to show that you are motivated to get better and how you plan to accomplish that goal. They show that you are attempting to improve and that future medical care is necessary. This is why and how investment in your future care is justified.
  3.    Demand Loss of Use dollars for the time that you were without the use of your bicycle. By analogy, when we lose our car, you've lost the use of that property and are entitled to Loss of Use compensation for the equivalent rent-a-car. The same holds true for a bicycle. To rent a bicycle, if you are able to ride, should be paid. A Loss of Use claim for your bicycle will hopefully motivate the insurance company to promptly settle your property damage.
4.    Have a focus group (through your attorney) evaluate a reasonable value for your case. This is a good way along with the jury verdicts and your lawyer's experience to establish a value. What will people in the community say is reasonable? Ultimately, a jury will do the same thing. This will give you a ballpark figure.
5.    When negotiating with an insurance company, negotiate in turn. Wait. Don't bid against yourself. Provide the insurance adjuster with internet medical legal research on the long-term effect of your injuries, i.e. arthritis, soft tissue healing, remodeling and repairing stages, take time. Don't be pressured. Always document and photocopy information sent to an insurance adjuster. Never sign a release of medical or employment no matter what the adjuster says. Remember, insurance adjusters are professional negotiators and they often attempt to settle for the lowest possible dollar amount. Some even discourage people from using the professional services of a lawyer or medical doctor. Don't fall for that propaganda and unfair business tactic!
6.    Claims adjusters know if they can keep you negotiating, there is a high probability they'll settle your case in favor of the insurance company. Don't' let them negotiate you beyond the applicable Statute of Limitations so you forever loose your rights. Consult with a qualified jury trial attorney with successful verdicts in order to protect your rights.

Received from Universal Sports: (October 2, 2009)
"Help to bring back Universal Sports on Direct TV

As many of you know, we were on DTV channel 604 for the month of September.  As of yesterday, they’ve taken us down.  We’re in negotiations to get back up, but it would really help to show that there is consumer demand to watch all the great content that we have.  I wanted to ask you to contact them at 1-800-DirecTV and do anything you can in terms of e-mails, Twitter posts, Facebook, forums, etc in order to let your audience know that they can have an impact on making Universal Sports available.  This month alone we’re airing the 2016 announcement from the IOC, the Gymnastics World Championships, the Chicago Marathon and the beginning of the Skiing World Cup season.

Thanks for all your continual support and I hope we can get back up on Direct TV soon, so everyone can experience the sports they love at home on their TV."
