'It was a bit boring in the beginning &
all of a sudden we were racing all day:' Mathieu van der
Poel didn't plan to join Tour de France stage seven
breakaway.
"Van
der Poel made sure he got into the escape after he saw
some dangerous riders and main rivals Wout van Aert (Jumbo
Visma) and Kasper Asgreen (Deceuninck Quick Step) getting
up the road. The Dutchman then just stuck to their
wheels."

Five talking points from stage six of the Tour
de France 2021.
"Mark
Cavendish has a real and probable chance of winning the
race’s green jersey for only the second time. Jasper
Philipsen is his closest contender, 46 points adrift of
him, while Peter Sagan, who has won the points
classification seven times, has been surprisingly quiet so
far and is 76 points shy of Cavendish’s tally of 148
points."

"At
almost 250 kilometers, this is the longest Tour stage in
21 years. It’s like two stages in one. The first half
heads due east on flat terrain, where a big breakaway is
sure to form. The second half through the Morvan forest
features five climbs with almost no respite between them."
