Giro d’Italia Previews of Stages 9-12.
"It is
the end of the first week of competition at the Giro
d’Italia and now we are deep into the Mezzogiorno, based
on the Giro’s need to go somewhere and maybe catch some
sun. Except that whenever they do long stages in Abruzzo
it rains and everyone is exceptionally miserable."

Giro d’Italia 2021 Stage 6 (3 stars).
"With
almost a week of racing in their legs, this stage presents
the first true test for the GC riders. The climbs in the
Apennines are not the most challenging in Italy, but none
of the riders hoping to be on the final podium in Milan
can have an off-day on the summit finish above the city of
Ascoli Piceno."

extra mile for me. Highly recommended! - Doug." Advertisement (velofix.com)

Europe.
"Carter
Woods is on a roll. The young Cumberland, B.C. racer won
his first under-23 World Cup a week ago in Germany. He
backed that up with a dominant win in brutally cold and
rainy conditions on Saturday in Nove Mesto, Czech
Republic."

Roger De Vlaeminck and the “Killer Legs.”
"Roger
raced as a pro for 16 seasons, from 1969 to 1984, and was
an absolute beast during the 1970s. Mention the name Roger
De Vlaeminck and the race that first comes to mind is
Paris Roubaix. He won it a record four times."

A closer look at Elia Viviani's brand new De
Rosa time trial bike.
"As
Elia Viviani took to the start ramp of the Giro d'Italia
stage 1 time trial, he did so aboard a new De Rosa time
trial bike, which looks to be a disc brake version of the
brand's TT03, but with subtle amendments made throughout."

Tour de France history: Merckx and Molteni
conquer all.
"When
race officials at the 1972 Tour de France published the
General Classification after Stage 3(b), Eddy Merckx was
in yellow with an overall time of 15h 15min 21sec. Nothing
strange about that, perhaps, other than the fact his time
was now 20 seconds less than it had been at the end of the
previous stage."

Racing History?
"By
the time that kidney disease forced his premature
retirement in 1976 at the age of just 30, Fuente had won
the Vuelta twice (1972 and 1974), finished second at the
Giro (1972) and third at the Tour (1973), winning 14
mountain stages in the process."
By Peter Cossins (pelotonmagazine.com) Images from the Horton Collection May 13, 2021 Painfully close: Giacomo Nizzolo’s Giro record
makes for tough reading.
"No
bike racer ever wants to come second, in any race, but for
Nizzolo, finishing second on Wednesday would have been
particularly painful. In five stages of this year’s Giro,
Nizzolo’s already finished second on two occasions. And
that’s just the tip of the iceberg."
