Tony Gallopin soloed
to victory Saturday during stage 6 of Paris-Nice and took over the race
lead heading into Sunday's final time trial.
The Lotto Soudal rider slipped away from the yellow jersey group of Michal Kwiatkowski with about 30km remaining and forged his way through the rain to the finish line in Nice. Simon Spilak finished second, followed by Rui Costa in third. March

Tejay van Garderen
said Saturday's cold and wet conditions at Paris-Nice led to his slide
down the general classification. The BMC Racing Team's leader conceded
nearly five minutes in the 187.5-kilometer race and fell out of the top
10 on the penultimate day of the race.
"On the descent off the Côte de Châteauneuf, I got really cold and I was just shivering," van Garderen said to the BMC website. "I just felt completely blocked. I tried to stay calm and tried to kind of regroup myself in hopes I would come around on the final climb. But once we started it, my legs were not really working.” March

A
spate of riders has decided to put an early end to their Paris-Nice,
ahead of the final weekend. Arnaud
Démare, Dries
Devenyns, Moreno
Hofland and Maarten
Wynants, Ruben
Plaza and Michael
Schär all chose not to start the penultimate stage to Nice.
Illness is the major reason for abandoning with Démare and Hofland blaming a fever for their departure, while Devenyns has gone home on doctor’s orders while suffering from a cold. Wynants has followed his teammate out of the race after developing bronchitis in the last couple of days. March

“It’s a bit scary to do this kind of thing so early in the year, but I can’t wait for Wiggins. It’s now or it will never happen.” Larsson will make his attempt only eight months after breaking his back in a nasty crash while training. From the hospital bed he tweeted a picture of his smashed-up face and the words: “I'll be f###ing back! Just like terminator...“ March

Alberto Contador is
quietly confident he can win Tirreno-Adriatico and get the better of
his big-name rivals Vincenzo
Nibali and Nairo
Quintana on the important mountain stage of
Tirreno-Adriatico to Terminillo on Sunday.
The Spaniard finished in the first chase group in Castelraimondo on Saturday, 14 seconds behind solo winner Wouter Poels and is now 10th overall at 32 seconds. He crashed with 50 kilometers to go, forcing him to chase to avoid losing time. March

Vincenzo Nibali
preferred to stay in the warm Astana team bus than speak to the media
and sign autographs for the tifosi after stage four of
Tirreno-Adriatico.
At the start in Indicatore the Tour de France winner had seemed relaxed and ready for the weekend of decisive racing in the hills and especially Sunday’s mountain finish at Terminillo. However after finishing in a second chase group behind stage winner and new race leader Wouter Poels, and after losing seven seconds to Alberto Contador and other key rivals, he was in no mood to talk. Team
Sky’s singular obsession with the Tour de France is officially over.
Not that the UK team wasn’t racing to win every chance it could during the first half decade of its existence, but it was no secret that the team’s energy and focus was directed toward winning cycling’s biggest prize — the yellow jersey. Sky pulled off the unimaginable not once, but twice, with two different riders, as Bradley Wiggins and then Chris Froome made history in the Tour de France during 2012-13. March

When
he burst on the pro scene in 2011, clocking up 11 UCI victories in his
debut year as a 21 year old, it appeared that cycling had found a new
star sprinter.
Earning comparisons with Mark Cavendish’s own debut year and having a similarly aero sprinting style, many predicated that Andrea Guardini was set for a huge future. Those early successes included five stage wins plus the points classification in the Tour de Langkawi, victory on stage five of the Tour of Qatar, two stages in the Tour of Turkey and one each in the Volta a Portugal, the Tour of Slovenia and the Giro di Padania. For a first year pro it was a staggering haul. March

The
spectator who brought down Velocio-SRAM rider Loren Rowney as she
sprinted for the line at the Drenthe 8 race in the Netherlands on
Thursday has been identified, and says the incident was “an accident.”
According to race organizer Femmy van Issum, the male spectator came forward this afternoon, reports Wielerfiets.nl. “Contrary to many people’s opinion, the man was unaware [of the incident]," she said, adding that his son had tugged his coat immediately prior to the crash. “That probably led to him sticking out his arm,” van Issum said, adding that photographs showed that he hadn’t been looking at the riders. Jolien d’Hoore
sprinted to victory at Ronde van Drenthe, coming off teammate Chloe Hosking’s
wheel with the finish line in sight. The Belgian national road champion
had a full bike length on Amy
Pieters in second place. Ellen van Dijk rounded
out the podium in Hoogeveen.
It’s the first World Cup victory for d’Hoore, who notched her biggest result to date on her 25th birthday. It has been a hugely successful week for Wiggle Honda with d’Hoore’s win at Omloop van het Hageland last Sunday and Giorgia Bronzini’s win at Drentse 8 on Thursday coming ahead of d’Hoore’s victory at the opening round of the ten-race women’s World Cup series. Youcef Reguigui seized
the overall lead of the Tour de Langkawi on Saturday after winning the
seventh and penultimate stage.
The mountainous 180.8km stage started in Shah Alam and led the peloton up Frasers Hill, 1150 meters above sea level, with a final climb of 5km. A four-man breakaway went clear and built a lead of nearly 8 minutes before a chase led first by Skydive Dubai and Tinkoff-Saxo, then Sky, began reeling it back in. March

Mads Pedersen, a big
winner on the junior scene with a victory at Paris Roubaix, Worlds
medals and more Pedersen
is now in the Professional Continental ranks after the team stepped up
a notch this year.
Danish/Luxembourger squad, Cult Racing has only moved up to the Pro Continental ranks for this season but already they’ve proved themselves to be no respecters of reputation and while perhaps not piling up the wins have been one of the animators of the season’s races, thus far. March
