André Greipel
snapped the losing streak that had plagued him of late with a sprint
victory in stage four of the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey on
Wednesday in Marmaris, Turkey.
Lotto-Soudal’s German sprinter, known as ‘The Gorilla,’ out-kicked Daniele Colli at the end of the 132km stage. Daniele Ratto, finished third, behind his Italian countryman. The race continues Thursday with a 160km stage from Mugla to Pamukkale. Davide Rebellin kept the leader’s jersey, which he claimed yesterday on stage 3’s summit finish. (velonews.com) April

"Colombian Rafael Montiel
climbed to the win during the opening stage of the Tour of the Gila
Wednesday, catching the remnants of a day-long breakaway on the upper
slopes of the final climb and soloing in for the victory.
In the women's race, Mara Abbott took the first step toward her fifth overall victory in the Tour of the Gila, riding away on the finishing climb in Mogollon to win the stage by half a minute over of Abby Mickey and Jasmin Glaesser." April

he prepares to battle for a Giro d’Italia-Tour de France double, Alberto Contador says
he is in good shape, fully recovered from a micro-fissure in his sacrum
caused by a crash late on in Volta a Catalunya and looking forward to
getting stuck into the most important challenge of his career.
Widely considered the greatest stage racer of his generation, Contador’s aim of taking a Giro-Tour double, the first since Marco Pantani, is an exceptionally ambitious target in anybody’s book. But as the 32-year-old Spaniard has said throughout the last six months, therein lies part of the interest in his trying to succeed in it. April

Dušan
is especially strong on hilly terrain and has a good sprint to finish
off a race. As there are not a lot of races in Serbia he mainly rides
in Switzerland and France.
Recently he also showed himself in Belgium where he rode the E3 Prijs Harelbeke. It was the first time on the cobblestones for Rajović but he won immediately which shows his talent." April

Pedals claims to deliver a mind-boggling seven percent increase in
power – magic beans and snake oil? It’s a novel concept, called Zivo
motion, that Nikola claims provides these gains.
Thanks to a design that creates 25mm of lateral movement in the pedal stroke, Nikola has created a stroke that mimics speed skating or cross-country skiers with an increasing Q-factor, or outward trajectory, during the power phase. Why should this create more power? Nikola claims the motion recruits more of the adductors and gluteus, portions of these muscle not typically engaged during a pedal stroke, therefore delivering more horsepower. April

On-bike
video has been a huge hit with cycling aficionados, opening up the
experience of a mass sprint, cyclocross races, track riding or escaping
a mass crash to armchair audiences.
The next step of broadcasting the action live to TV viewers could be nearer, with GoPro’s launch of its live action camera system for professional broadcasters. HEROCast is a modular system which can either be connected by cable to a standard GoPro Hero4 Black camera or mounted directly to the camera’s back and transmits 1080/60 frames per second and 720/60fps video to a base station. GoPro claims that this is the smallest and lightest live streaming transmitter available using industry standard streaming technology and is much more power efficient than competitors’ options. April

| Michael Albasini
scored victory on stage 2 of the Tour de Romandie with a well-timed
sprint in Saint-Imier. The Swiss rider saw off Jarlinson Pantano and
Julian Alaphilippe after
the Col de la Vue des Alpes had whittled down the peloton significantly.
Albasini’s win means that he now stands 10 seconds clear of his teammate Ivan Santaromita and Chris Froome at the head of the general classification. The overnight leader, Geraint Thomas suffered a puncture just as the speed was ratcheting up at the base of the final climb and he was never able to get back on terms. April

World
champion Michal
Kwiatkowski is reportedly negotiating a new contract for
2016 and beyond with three teams including Team Sky. The 24-year-old
Pole already boasts a strong palmarés, having won the Amstel Gold Race
a week ago in the Netherlands and the world championship last year in
Spain.
Kwiatkowski’s agent explained to Cycling Weekly that they have not signed anything official yet, but that they are working on it. “We are talking with Patrick Lefevere, with two other teams that Michal is interested in. Sky and another one that I can’t say,” said Giuseppe Acquadro. April

Hansen will be
riding his 11th consecutive Grand Tour in his quest to set a new mark
for endurance in the sport.
“Adam Hansen will ride his eleventh Grand Tour in a row. He can definitely have a go of his own on some days. In the sprint he’ll have to work for André Greipel. In tougher stages it’s a priority to help out Jurgen Van den Broeck,” said Sports director Bart Leysen. Greg Henderson, Sander Armée, Lars Bak, Stig Broeckx, Maxime Monfort, and Louis Vervaeke will join Hansen, Van den Broeck and Greipel for the 9 May race which begins with a team time trial in San Lorenzo al Mare, Italy. reported, can add years to your life – but work with your body’s
changing strengths, weaknesses and nutritional needs and you’ll get
better at cycling too.
"Regular exercise throughout life can slow and even reverse factors associated with the ageing process,” said Carlton Cooke, Carnegie Professor of Sport and Exercise at Leeds Metropolitan University. He said too many people give up their usual exercise when they age, when what they should be doing is adapting it to suit their changing physiology and lifestyle. Here’s how to stay smiling in the saddle, whatever your age." April

the route of the 2015 Giro d’Italia was announced last October our most
experienced Grand Tour reporter, Ed
Hood, gave us his first look. This year’s Italian tour is
mostly in the north, but in Ed’s
own words: “There’s something for everyone in the 2015 Giro!”
There’s something for everyone in the 2015 Giro, a TTT, mountains aplenty, sprinter fests, breakaway stages and a ‘throwback’ long time test to make sure the climbers really have to ‘go for it’ and carve big chunks of time in the mountains. Check out the 21 stage profile, and scroll to the bottom for the full course map. April

TomTom has announced they’re venturing into the action cam business,
with the introduction of the TomTom Bandit. This Twinkie
sized action cam contains 2.7K (30FPS) and 4K (15FPS) capabilities, as
well as GPS functionality that you’d expect from a GPS satellite
navigation company.
"I’ve been using the unit for a number of weeks now as part of all sorts of activities – from cycling to running to time lapses, and simply just goofing around. Thus, I’ve got a pretty good idea on how it works. The unit I have has the final launch firmware on it, and the app is now final too. The unit itself with the exception of the mount and waterproofing is considered final. Given the finality of most of it, I’m going to go ahead with an In-Depth Review and then circle back to the review once I can validate any outstanding concerns on the final hardware." April

The
advantages of mechanical-free, electronic gear shift systems like
Shimano’s Di2 and Campagnolo’s EPS include more precise, quicker gear
changes, reduced chain wear, and the facility to allow multiple
locations for shifters, making the process of swapping cogs as simple
as the press of a button.
But will an electronic groupset benefit all of us? Ben Hillsdon, PR officer for Shimano Europe thinks so. “The slick, precise shifting operation that comes through electronic gears is unrivalled. And the maintenance involved is minimal,” he says. “When it was on Dura-Ace only, it was in the realms of aspiration, but now it’s on Ultegra it’s within the reach of sportive riders as well as pros.” April

The
UCI has introduced new sanctions for motorized doping that include a
minimum suspension of six months for riders and teams found guilty of
an offense, as well as fines of up to 1 million Swiss Francs.
A new clause covering “technological fraud” was added to the UCI’s regulations on January 30, and it provides for heavy penalties for riders and teams found to have used bikes with “electric or other assistance.” April

At
the end of the day, it’s just a job, like any other. Except to earn
this paycheck, they’re pinning on numbers, counting calories, and of
course, spending countless hours training on the open road.
In a culture predicated on intense focus and attention to detail, some professional cyclists avoid distraction and become one-dimensional. Ben King does not. The 26-year-old American on Cannondale-Garmin has found ways during his five-year stint as a pro to absorb more of the experience and reflect on races in a way sometimes avoided by his cohorts who prefer a more nose-to-the-grindstone approach. If
there was a young rider who has made a big impression thus far at the
Presidential Tour of Turkey, it’s the 22 year old Australian Jay McCarthy.
The Tinkoff Saxo competitor rode strongly on Tuesday’s third stage
summit finish to Elmali, netting fourth at the line and jumping up to
fourth overall.
Then, after telling CyclingTips he would fight for as high a placing as possible, he attacked again on the climb in the finale of stage four. McCarthy was one of a quintet who clipped away with just over ten kilometres remaining, going over the top of the climb with a solid gap and then hammering it down the descent. April
29, 2015 (cyclingtips.com.au) "It’s
hard to believe that the last time I pinned a number on, it was still
March.
I got a lot of bewildered looks when other racers learned that I was taking a month break from racing — In April — but those looks became more understanding upon hearing that I’d already accumulated a whopping 25 race days since things kicked off in Australia. In fact, was tied for the most race days in the team. I couldn’t be more pleased with how my legs handled such a schedule. I could have kept on racing a while longer, but I would have paid for it down the line. By getting some rest before I desperately needed it, I can much more confidently dive into the meat of the season. As it was, I was in such a strong rhythm from all the racing that I over-rested following Tirreno-Adriatico and Milano-Sanremo, resulting in my first DNF of the year in the Classica Corsica. Following a set of intervals the next day to help re-establish the rhythm, I was improving throughout Criterium International. But then it was time to rest." April

Some
designers in Italy are working on a device, that they hope will help
cyclists avoid potholes, or bucas as it may be.
The Italian company, Byxee, has created a video device that’s design to warn cyclists of impending potholes, bumps and obstacles in the way of their path. The Byxee uses a video camera to scan the road ahead, which can detect the aforementioned hazards, and quickly send out an audible alarm, warning cyclists of what lies ahead. Cyclists will get one beep for low danger, two beeps for medium danger, and three beeps for high danger. The Byxee can be set to scan the roadway from 50 to 80 feet ahead. April
