CyclingNews: John Degenkolb's biggest win of his career to date came just two days into his first ever major Grand Tour, as he powered up the slight rise that concluded Sunday's bunch sprint stage of the Vuelta a Espana, just ahead of a clearly frustrated Allan Davis (Orica-GreenEdge).

Daniel Katz: Jonathan Vaughters’ admission to doping has prompted quite the debate. I’ve generally steered clear of the whole thing because (1) I follow politics for a living and there are much more pressing matters in the world that make this seem petty and dumb, and (2) I love cycling and this challenges my notions of “fair.”

CyclingNews: Judy Freeman (Crank Brothers) kicked off a weekend of racing at the Subaru Cup with a victory in the women's cross country event.  She finished ahead of Amanda Sin (Scott-3Rox Racing) and Pua Mata (Sho-Air Specialized).  It was Freeman's first-ever cross country national series win.

USCR:  On Saturday, August 18, 2012, the UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team put forth a strong and smart effort in the 176.1km Stage Four portion of the 2012 Tour of Portugal to ensure their South African Teammate and overall race leader, Jay Thomson (RSA), was able to hold onto the yellow jersey for a third consecutive day.

Derek Zandstra (3Rox-Scott Racing) won the Wisconsin Off Road Series (WORS) Subaru Cup race in Mt. Morris, Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon.  Zandstra beat two Specialized teammates: Todd Wells, who was fresh off racing the Olympic Games last weekend, and U23 racer Howard Grotts.  It was Zandstra's first US Pro XCT victory.
