Nacer Bouhanni
avoided a huge crash in the final kilometer to take his third Giro
d’Italia stage victory in Salsomaggiore. The Frenchman jumped off the
wheel of Giacomo Nizzolo
to beat the Italian and Michael
Matthews. Cadel
Evans retained his lead in the race for the
maglia rosa.
May 20, 2014 Having
been seen as a favorite, it will be of little concern to Bouhanni, who
once again sent a message to his FDJ.fr bosses as he bids to convince
them he should lead the French team at the Tour de France.

Back
in 2002, when Cadel Evans
was making his grand tour debut at the Giro d’Italia following his
transition from mountain biking, he unexpectedly snagged the pink

pointed question: “Do you know who Fausto
Coppi is?” (velonews.com)

May 20, 2014 "My
goal was simple: earn another
DNC crown
to go with the string of them I’d won in every crit now since
the Dana Point Grand Prix
in 2008, when a lummox clipped one of the
steel barriers on the left and started a pachinko cascade of bikes,
wheels, screaming idiots, and soft-cartilageand-bone smearing along the
pavement at 30 mph. “DNC,” by the way, stands for Did Not Crash."

May 20, 2014 "Stage
eight [Saturday] was the sort of day that we knew it wouldn't be
possible to keep the pink
jersey but I had a fun day, just enjoying it as best I
could. I gave it a go on the last climb to try and stick with it out of
respect for the jersey, not just to sit up and pedal in."

May 20, 2014 Expectations,
particularly in sport, can be a double-edged sword. Live up to them,
and you’ve accomplished what was anticipated. Fail to live up to them,
and you’ve disappointed, often no matter what the circumstances.

May 20, 2014 There’s
a thing called ‘the hour’.
It’s a discipline in cycling that demands that a rider ride around a
track on his own for an hour as fast as he can. The distance he travels
in that hour is recorded and compared to other cyclists who, also on
their own, have themselves ridden around a track for an hour. Whoever
travels the most distance is the holder of the hour record.
Simple.
Right? Well, not quite. (crankpunk.com)
