Photo: Stage Profile...
CyclingFans: Wednesday's Criterium du Dauphine Stage 4, a 32.5km Individual Time Trial from Villars-les-Dombes to Parc des Oiseaux, gets underway at 10:50am CET (4:50am U.S. Eastern) with the departure of the first rider. Criterium du Dauphine live streaming video should get underway at around 1:00pm CET (7:00am U.S. Eastern).

Photo: The Route: flat. Normally the vertical gain of each stage is listed by the race organisers but it’s not worth listing.
InnerRing: A flat time trial might not make for good TV viewing but it’s Act 1 in the duel between Alberto Contador and Chris Froome and the first time we get to see the relative form of all the other candidates to win this race and the Tour de France.

Photo: It's been an untypical start to the Critérium Du Dauphiné...
PodiumCafe: Two stages done in France and we already have some interesting answers, and even more interesting questions.

Photo: stereotypes start out with a kernel of truth, they don't get you very far.
PodiumCafe: We talk a lot about each other's nationalities, and about those of the riders. How do we separate the kidding around from something more relevant to cycling?

Photo: Edvald Boasson Hagen (Team Sky) was a pre-stage favorite.
CyclingNews: Veilleux retains yellow jersey.

Photo: Grossglockner 3-D map.
CyclingNews: Weather could also play a role, race director says.

Photo: It was 2008 when he signed for BMC and has been there ever since.
PEZ: Some say that last is the worst spot to finish a race; but there’s also a school of thought which says second place is the worst.

Photo: Riders in the 2011 Mt. Hood Cycling Classic negotiate snow-walled roads during the Three Summits stage..
CyclingNews: Women's elite race in jeopardy for this year's edition.

Photo: The Focus Black Forest 29er 3.0, which sits in the middle of their big-wheel Black Forest range.
BikeRadar: Rather than being a type of gateau, the Focus Black Forest 3.0 is actually a hardtail 29er with a Shimano drivetrain and a price of £949.99/ $1,599.99.

Photo: Pat McQuaid has said he has Swiss Cycling’s backing to run for UCI president again, but the Swiss are to meet again after confusion has emerged about the nature of their backing for the Irishman.
StickyBottle: It has been suggested that the board may have simply recognized his right to stand for re-election, rather than giving a clear backing at this point.

Photo: Brian Cookson said cycling's international governing body needs to be fixed.
VeloNews: British Cycling chief Brian Cookson said on Tuesday that he would challenge controversial incumbent Pat McQuaid for the presidency of the International Cycling Union.

Photo: Mauro Santambrogio had joined his Vini Fanini team-mate Danilo di Luca in testing positive for EPO.
VeloNation: Scinto says project is over while Citracca pledges it will continue.

Photo: Wind tunnel testing is by no means inexpensive. But unless you're able to somehow test your own personal setup there's no guarantee that you'll get the advantages some manufacturers claim.
BikeRadar: Cycling companies are bombarding us with a veritable rat's nest of claimed aero savings. Add them all up and it seems like you could arrive at your destination before you leave.

Photo: The tube shapes and carbon layup on the new BMC Team Machine SLR01 are all new, thanks to some revolutionary design software the company used.
VeloNews: BMC’s new Team Machine SLR01 is markedly stiffer than its predecessor. We are comfortable making such a statement — “markedly stiffer than before” — without a long test period and time in the lab. The improvement is that obvious.

Photo: There are a variety of options for valve stems, ranging from short to long and with or without valve extenders.
Lennard Zinn: Unlike with tubular tires, the issue with inner tubes, at least butyl ones, is that very few of them have removable valve cores.

Photo: Team CF's Selene Yeager had a lock on second in the Women's category untill a missing course marker.
DirtRag: In this year's eighth annual Dirty Kanza gravel road race riders doing the full loop were punished with nearly 100 miles of strong head and cross winds across the open prairies, resulting in slightly slower finishing times.

Photo: The new Giant Propel Advanced SL.
BikeRadar: The £4,499/US$5,150 Propel Advanced SL 3 is Giant's first aero bike, launched with claims that it's the fastest in the world.

Photo: you probably won’t remove your aerobars mid ride...
BikeRumor: Thanks to Redshift Sports, triathletes can have their cake and then ride it off in either the aero or road position.

Photo: Enve’s handlebar/stem pairing is finished in a classy matt carbon.
BikeRadar verdict: 3 out of 5 stars. "A well finished cockpit that performs strongly in all areas, but with a significant price tag."

Photo: A wide range of release tension adjustability is allowed.
BikeRadar verdict: 3 out of 5 stars. "Another solid offering from the original clipless pedal makers."

Photo: Cookson is a senior UCI insider.
InnerRing: The last thing the UCI needs is a win by default for McQuaid, an election without a challenge. It’s the equivalent of winning a bike race with one starter.

Photo: Pat McQuaid, who is running for his third term.
VeloNation: Existing UCI head seeks to dent rival’s chances with questioning email.

Photo: Three major professional sports provide road maps for cycling leaders to realize change. Illustrations: Mike Reisel.
VeloNews: Christian Vande Velde once called pro cycling “the biggest amateur sport in the world.” Though established in the late 1800s, cycling has never matured into a stable, well-managed business like the leagues that run professional soccer, tennis, baseball, or Formula ı.

Photo: The first positive for the team was that of Danilo Di Luca.
VeloNation: Team acting out of “respect” for RCS Sport after “embarrassment” of Di Luca and Santambrogio.

Photo: The men's road race at the 2013 worlds closes with 10 demanding circuits. Photo: toscana2013.it.
VeloNews: Cycling is bracing itself for the hardest world championships in recent years. Last week, the organizer officially presented the course, which takes in Tuscany’s sights and cumulates with a circuit that includes two stiff climbs.

Photo: Tour of Belgium leader Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-QuickStep).
CyclingNews: OPQS German says Sunday's attack was not planned.

Photo: Interval session power and heart rate data from weeks 3-5 and sea level baseline for comparison.
CyclingTips: "I’m four weeks into this little experiment and all is well. I’ve completed all my scheduled sessions so far and I am definitely coping with the gradual introduction of intensity into the program."

USACycling: Michael Broderick will represent the U.S. in the elite men's race, while Broderick's wife, two-time Olympian Mary McConneloug will contest the elite women's race.

Photo: the Nox 6.5 FR with modified Dura Ace Di2 was built...
BikeRumor: Check out electronic shifting, suspension control, radical road bike geometry and the evolution of the bike, all from BlackCatBone’s point of view.

RedKitePrayer: The title of this post is drawn from an extraordinary document drawn up by five Irish cyclists—Anthony Moran, Dr. Conor McGrane, Paul Atkinson, Mark Gill and Dr. Cillian Kelly. The document lays out an argument for why McQuaid should not achieve yet another nomination.
