Road Race Circuit Profile
CyclingFans: Sunday's UCI Road Worlds Elite Men Road Race gets underway at 10:45am CET (4:45am U.S. Eastern) and is expected to finish at around 5:00pm CET (11:00am U.S. Eastern). Road Worlds live streaming video should get underway at around *10:45am CET (*4:45am U.S. Eastern).

Come Sunday evening, we're all going to be sick of the sight of the Cauberg.
Blazin' Saddles: The fabled Dutch climb — renowned for its prominent role in the Amstel Gold Race — was used in both the TTT and ITT; now the peloton must drag itself over the Cauberg's 12% maximum gradient 10 times on Sunday in pursuit of the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

[World Championships - Elite womens road race]
VeloNews: Dutch superstar Marianne Vos put her five worlds silver medals to bed on the Cauberg Saturday when she stormed away with the women’s elite world road title in Valkenburg, Netherlands.

Alexey Lutsenko celebrates winning the sprint
CyclingNews: Alexey Lutsenko (Kazakhstan) won the Under 23 men world road race title with a perfectly timed sprint finish along the left side of the road.

Oscar Freire (Katusha), awarded most combative at the Grand Prix de Wallonie, was part of a late race break which was caught in the closing kilometres.
CyclingNews: Three-time World champion Oscar Freire of Spain is just hours away from what could be his last ever professional bike race, and it is appropriate that he should ride his final World championships at Valkenburg, where he rode his first World’s way back in 1998.

PEZ: "The first road race is won and done at the World Championships and our man Ed Hood was there rubbing shoulders with the best to get the lowdown on the circuit and the expert's favorites for Sunday."

Truth is a defense … and makes for a good read, too.
RedKitePrayer: Pat McQuaid and the notoriously thin-skinned Hein Verbruggen are no strangers to the Swiss Courts. In addition to the now-petered-out lawsuit against Floyd Landis, Verbruggen and the UCI itself once brought a similar suit against former World Anti-Doping Agency president, Dick Pound.

UCI President Pat McQuaid speaks to the press
CyclingNews: In the wake of news that his defamation proceedings against Paul Kimmage will be heard in court in December, UCI president Pat McQuaid has refuted the claim that he is opposed to the freedom of the press.

VeloNews: Amber Neben nearly gave the United States a seventh medal this week in the UCI Road World Championships, but came up just short when Marianne Vos attacked violently on the final climb of the Cauberg. Neben raced with the winning group to the base of the Cauberg for the last time, but she “didn’t have it” behind Dutchwoman Vos.

The nicely formed junction of the curved top tube, seat tube and svelte seatstays
BikeRadar: Swift Carbon has developed a great reputation for high-end road and time trial bikes, and have now diversified into the mountain bike arena. They start with the Detritovore, a lightweight, XC race-orientated 29er.

Oversized bottom bracket and chain stays house an oversized bb30 crank axle to maximise power delivery:
BikeRadar verdict: 4 out of 5 stars. "Powerful and race-focused, and rivals bikes that cost three times as much."

Distraction

UCI president Pat McQuaid faces the media at a press conference during the road Worlds in Valkenburg.
CyclingNews: UCI president Pat McQuaid has said that the governing body has "nothing to apologize for" in relation to its management of the sport during the Lance Armstrong era. In a press conference in Valkenburg on Saturday, McQuaid also said that the UCI was still waiting to receive the file from USADA's case against Armstrong, but at this point he did not envisage that they would appeal the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

[Millar critical of the UCI over doping] David Millar says the UCI and Hein Verbruggen should admit mistakes during the EPO era so that the sport can move forward. Photo: Andrew Hood | VeloNews.com
VeloNews: David Millar says the UCI should own up to its role in cycling’s doping past and said that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency investigation into Lance Armstrong is the “best thing for cycling.”

Pat McQuaid, World Championships 2012
CyclingWeekly: The Union Cycliste International (UCI) is holding its ground regarding Lance Armstrong, saying it has cover up nothing. It is waiting for the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) to pass along its files before it makes its next move.

Baby Giro winner, Joe Dombrowski of the USA is here
PEZ: Baby Giro winner, Joe Dombrowski of the USA is here - "he gets skinnier every time I see him."

Zipp's impressive line of 2013 wheels
RBAction: "All of the latest and greatest bikes, parts and accessories from the world's biggest brands are on display (including Zipp's impressive line of 2013 wheels), so here's a quick look at some of the things that caught our eyes."

The inride watt meter displays data via an iphone/ipad app:
BikeRadar: We previewed the Kurt Kinetic inRide Watt Meter system – a novel way of getting accurate power readings from Kinetic turbo trainers – when it was first announced in August 2012. We've now had a chance to see it in action at the Interbike trade show in Las Vegas.
