Philippe Gilbert (Belgium) was all smiles in the rainbow jersey
CyclingNews: Philippe Gilbert (Belgium) pulled on cycling's rainbow jersey with a perfectly-timed attack to win the 2012 world championships in Valkenburg, Holland. The Belgian attacked on the final ascent of the Cauberg, distancing a select group of pre-race favourites. Edvald Boasson Hagan (Norway) and Alejandro Valverde (Spain) rounded out the medals, while defending champion Mark Cavendish (Great Britain) abandoned after working for his team in the first half of the race.

The podium: Ewan Caleb (Australia), Matej Mohoric (Slovenia) and Josip Rumac (Croatia)
CyclingNews: Matej Mohoric of Slovenia won the Junior men’s world road race title with a perfect-timed attack over the top of the Cauberg,  beats Ewan and Rumac.

British National Champion Helen Wyman (Kona) at the 2011 Zolder World Cup
PodiumInsight: Once again seven-time and reigning British national cyclocross champion Helen Wyman (Kona Factory Team) started her off her cross season in the United States and once again she started off with victories; four out of five races so far.

Road Race Circuit Profile
CyclingFans: Sunday's UCI Road Worlds Elite Men Road Race gets underway at 10:45am CET (4:45am U.S. Eastern) and is expected to finish at around 5:00pm CET (11:00am U.S. Eastern). Road Worlds live streaming video should get underway at around *10:45am CET (*4:45am U.S. Eastern).

Come Sunday evening, we're all going to be sick of the sight of the Cauberg.
Blazin' Saddles: The fabled Dutch climb — renowned for its prominent role in the Amstel Gold Race — was used in both the TTT and ITT; now the peloton must drag itself over the Cauberg's 12% maximum gradient 10 times on Sunday in pursuit of the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Keep it Pez for all the roadside reaction from Ed Hood.
PEZ: The crowd goes mental as the winner’s name is announced, the drunken songs have already started. The man himself stuffs his arms down the sleeves and prepares to pull the fabled rainbow jersey over his head. He whispers disbelievingly to the presentation party ... “I’ve been dreaming about this my whole life.”

Oscar Freire
VeloNation: Three time winner aimed for one last success. Slates Valverde for not waiting on Cauberg.

a popular drink in the Caribbean and in Southeast Asia
InsideTrack: These days, coconut water is an increasingly popular sports beverage. Store displays and advertisements tout its benefits over plain water and traditional sports drinks. But does coconut water actually live up to all the health hype?

Chris Horner (USA) competing in his first Olympic Games
CyclingNews: Horner, 40, was part of the US team way back in 1998 when the World’s was last held at Valkenberg and with countless Amstel Golds under his belt, Horner knows the course like the back of his hand - and he warns it’s constantly undulating, technical nature makes it very hard to predict.

BMC TMR01
RedKitePrayer: BMC TMR01, their new aero road frame. The fork design is fascinating for the way it hides the brake cable and as an illustration of the lengths that engineers have to go to avoid violating any of the UCI’s ridiculous rules regarding aerodynamics.

Truth is a defense … and makes for a good read, too.
RedKitePrayer: Pat McQuaid and the notoriously thin-skinned Hein Verbruggen are no strangers to the Swiss Courts. In addition to the now-petered-out lawsuit against Floyd Landis, Verbruggen and the UCI itself once brought a similar suit against former World Anti-Doping Agency president, Dick Pound.

Distraction

Paul Kimmage
CyclingNews: Paul Kimmage has spoken about the defense fund set up in order to raise funds for his legal battle against Pat McQuaid, Hein Verbruggen and the UCI.

Armstrong and Bruyneel "28"
On the final stage of the Tour de France in 2010, the RadioShack team controversially wore their now famous “28” shirts in Paris.

Tyler Hamilton in 2004
CyclingNews: Tyler Hamilton has called on Lance Armstrong to tell the truth about his past, suggesting his life will improve even if any confession to doping could have huge financial implications.

Boasson Hagen
VeloNation: Norwegian sprints to second place after Gilbert gets away on the Cauberg.

Hilton Clarke
RoadCycling: The UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team closed out the 2012 season as Australian sprinter Hilton Clarke was crowned king of this year’s U.S. National Criterium Calendar (NCC) Series following his 4th place finish at the TD Bank Mayor’s Cup in Boston, Massachusetts.

26er Versus 29er
MBAction: Both bikes are made for the exact same rider. They are basic trailbikes with hardtail frames, short-travel front suspension and proven components. They would be just as much at home on the singletrack of Crested Butte and the serpentine trails of Gooseberry Mesa as they would navigating an urban park’s paths or rails-to-trails networks.

UCI president Pat McQuaid faces the media at a press conference during the road Worlds in Valkenburg.
CyclingNews: UCI president Pat McQuaid has said that the governing body has "nothing to apologize for" in relation to its management of the sport during the Lance Armstrong era. In a press conference in Valkenburg on Saturday, McQuaid also said that the UCI was still waiting to receive the file from USADA's case against Armstrong, but at this point he did not envisage that they would appeal the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
