Photo: That it’s okay to take a risk — and that’s where the best stuff happens in life.
It smacks of cliché: person quits job, seeks adventure, achieves success and writes memoir. And yet, how many of us actually do it? Rebecca Rusch left her job as co-owner and manager of a rock climbing gym in LA nearly two decades ago to compete in adventure races and off-road cycling events, living out of her car to save money. "Going into the first ever edition of the  3 day Tour de Tayabas (May 30th-June 1st) hosted by the rather swish Gracelands Estates Country Club in the Quezon Province of the Philippines, i had extremely low expectations. normally I’m cocky / confident / stupid enough to think I can grab a stage win at the least." It seems like forever ago, but it was just over 2 years ago that SRAM introduced their revolutionary XX1 drivetrain which promised to rid the world of front derailleurs for good. It was awesome, but it was prohibitively expensive for the majority of consumers. (bikerumor.com)

“As radical as this saddle looks,” says Tioga’s Kai Cheng, “there is a purpose to it. It’s not radical looking for the sake of being radical looking. Sure, we have a tendency to make unorthodox products, but there is a legitimate performance purpose to not being mainstream.” (bikemag.com)

Photo: Bikes are simple machines, and though they might look like some crazy assemblage of gears, cables, and levers, there really isn’t that much going on.
Covers cleaning your chain, fixing a flat and adjusting your shifting, all of which are relatively easy and will get you out of most mid-ride debacles. It all takes about 10 minutes and would cost about $30 in labor if you had it done in a bike shop. (grarpatrol.com)
