The Italian and Josh Edmondson bridges the gap to lone leader Yukiya Arashiro and finally the Italian got clear on his own to hold off the sprinters by 5 seconds. With rosters loaded with climbers and riders coming out of the Giro d'Italia in good condition, Colombia were hoping to be in the spotlight in the queen stages of the Route du Sud and the Tour de Slovenie. With no real climbers on the roster, IAM always knew that the mountainous Route du Sud would be a tough affair for the team but they were still hugely disappointed after their poor performance in the opening stage.
