Pave': After a wild week of racing, things calm down a bit in Europe this week. After a few weeks off, thanks primarily to two World Cup rounds, the Toi Toi Cup continues in Kolin, Czech Republic. On Saturday the Soudal Classics continue with Jaarmarktcross Niel, Belgium, while the Superprestige series continues on Sunday in Hamme-Zogge. On Sunday there are two UCI C2 races, one in Germany and one in Switzerland.

road.cc: It’s the most wonderful time of the year… nearly. With Christmas just peeping its red-hatted head over the horizon, we thought we’d suggest some gifts for the performance-minded cyclist.

CyclingIQ: By the end of the 2012 Tour of Taihu Lake, overall winner Milan Kadlec had gained, on average, a one second advantage over runner-up Floris Goesinnen for every one hundred kilometres raced. Ultimately, the Czech rider never allowed rivals to claw back the bonus time he gained from winning the first stage.

CyclingNews: The Independent Commission’s mandate will be key.

Peloton: After every major doping scandal in cycling, professional teams say they are going to clean up their act by enforcing a zero-tolerance policy toward doping. They said it after the Festina Affair at the 1998 Tour de France, they said it after Spain’s Operación Puerto police bust in 2006, and they’re saying it again.

Photo: Susan DeMattei earned her spot in the history books as the first American to win an Olympic medal in mountain biking.
USACycling: For many Olympic athletes, “retirement” is a four-letter word, one which is reserved for a day when their skills have faded, and the glory has long since disappeared. But for 1996 Olympic Mountain Biking bronze medalist and 2012 U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame inductee Susan DeMattei, retirement was something she had to be talked out of, just months before the crowning achievement of her athletic career.

BikeRadar: Giro previewed an intriguing new line of cycling clothing on Thursday at the Golden Saddle Cyclery in downtown Los Angeles. Dubbed 'New Road,’ the retro-inspired collection is neither street wear nor performance kit but somewhere in between. Whether or not that market actually exists remains to be seen, but we will find out once New Road becomes available in the spring.
