Photo: Stage one sees the race depart from Leeds, Yorkshire’s latest city, and take a circuitous and picturesque route to nearby Harrogate.
With the Tour’s Grand Depart only days away, we preview the route and take a look back at the last time the Tour began in the UK, 2007 – a time when Cavendish had yet to stand a top a Tour podium, Bradley Wiggins was considered a pretender to the throne of Tour champion and Peter Sagan was  17year old junior. McEwen, Cancellara and Boonen were at the height of their powers and Contador was battling Rasmussen, Vinokourov and Evans for the yellow jersey. (pelotonmagazine.com)

On the back of his best spring season for years, Alberto Contador returns to the Tour de France with the aim of conquering the race that he hasn't won since 2009. However, he admits that Chris Froome is the big favorite and even claims that the defending champion was stronger in this year's Criterium du Dauphiné than in last year's Tour de France. Photo: The rules are simple, the jersey is worn by the best rider on the overall classification born on or after 1 January 1989.
It’s said the mark of a champion is to win the Tour de France at your first go. Eddy Merckx, Jacques Anquetil and Bernard Hinault are among those who came, saw and conquered from the start. But that’s the exception and the majority of Tour winners are like fine wines that take time to age and mature. You can be born with talent but it has to be worked on, weaknesses addressed and tactics learned. (inrng.com)

Marcel Kittel and John Degenkolb have criticized the Giant-Shimano management for their lack of influence on the roster for the Tour de France. It appears that Campagnolo did not invent the quick release at all. The story of the race in the snow is a myth. Heat and UV light are very bad for latex, so where the tubes were stored could be a big factor. Latex tubes deteriorate only if outside and exposed to light, sun, UV and extreme temperatures. There are tubulars that are 20 years old and still run great, so the tube has a long life when protected. (velonews.com)
