Photo: And now, Sir Bradley Wiggins, the first Brit ever to win the Tour de France, has told no less a media outlet than the BBC that he wishes he hadn’t won the world’s greatest bike race..
Permit me an unfair, inaccurate and sweeping generalization. The United Kingdom is full of freaks. Okay, so I know the entire population of the U.K. isn’t as eccentric (or funny) as John Cleese, but I can’t think of any place that produces people so colossally at odd with their talent as the population in those islands. Team Sky’s Chris Froome expressed sadness over the outcome of the Tour de France because he believes there was no one to rival Astana’s overall winner Vincenzo Nibali during the decisive mountain stages after he and Tinkoff-Saxo’s captain Alberto Contador were forced to abandon due to their injuries from crashing. Photo: In a tough uphill sprint on the third stage of the Tour de Wallonie, Lobato powered clear to pass Dillier and Sprengers who had opened a small gap; Meersman finished strongly to take second and extend his overall lead...
Juan Jose Lobato finally broke his string of near-missed when he won today’s hilly third stage of the Tour de Wallonie in impressive fashion. In a tough uphill sprint, he powered clear of the peloton to easily hold off Gianni Meersman and Silvan Dillier, passing several riders who had started their sprint too early. Meersman finished second for the third day in a row which was enough to extends his overall lead. (cyclingquotes.com)

Without Froome, Sky capitulated as Australian Richie Porte proved to be a poor substitute leader, finishing the race 23rd overall, more than an hour behind Nibali, and actually behind two of his domestiques. (velonews.com)

Photo: The Tour seemed popular in Yorkshire...
What happened to the French? How dare they suddenly turn up and start riding and supplying bucket loads of excitement and intrigue? Putain! And who’s this Nibali character, riding his heart out on the cobbles then going on to put in a such a sustained performance of elegant force that he truly shocked many onlookers? Tom Teesdale. It’s a name unfamiliar to most cyclists. It’s a name that arguably did as much for the industry as Gary Fisher, Mike Sinyard, or Tom Ritchey.  It’s also a name that deserves correction for the first statement, and recognition for the latter, because tragically, Tom Teesdale is no longer with us.
