Welcome to the Big Show, Matthew Busche. At 29, he is riding his first Tour de France this year, and so far he’s had a proper French racing baptism: crashing, riding the breaks, getting moved out of the way, and soaking up a Tour rest day. (velonews.com)

There are places that are woven deep into the culture of road cycling. As the Tour de France moves into its second century it has arguably made icons of just a handful of mountains: the Col du Tourmalet, Mont Ventoux and, with a place on most road riders’ bucket list, Alpe d’Huez. It is this climb that makes champions every time it is included in the Tour. (cyclingtips.com.au)

After collecting junior world championship titles in both cross-country mountain biking and the winter sport of cyclocross, Sagan focused his competitive interests toward the road. With Vincenzo Nibali comfortably installed in the yellow jersey and the only one of the three pre-race favorites to make it to the big mountain stages you could be excused for thinking it's all over in the Tour de France. That would be doing a disservice to the riders directly behind the Italian because although they might be wondering what they can do against a Nibali in top form they'll also be wondering how they can ambush each other. He’s been second three times on stages, as well as three times fourth and once fifth. French riders and teams have struggled to make a strong impression on their national tour for the past two decades. Prior to Lance Armstrong in 1999 non-Campy wins were as rare as a clean cyclist. Of those exceptions, some of the more interesting victories were Mavic’s, and none of them were more memorable than the group that Greg LeMond rode on his TVT carbon on his way to victory in the 1989 Tour de France.
