Sagan denied once
again on stage 12. (cyclingnews.com)
July 17, 2014 Welcome
to the Big Show, Matthew
Busche. At 29, he is riding his first Tour de France this
year, and so far he’s had a proper French racing baptism: crashing,
riding the breaks, getting moved out of the way, and soaking up a Tour
rest day. (velonews.com)
July 17, 2014 Alejandro Valverde
sat on the steps of the Movistar bus, taking a few questions from
journalists before the start of Thursday’s stage. The 34-year-old
Spaniard has not garnered much attention so far, but that is poised to
change as the Tour de France pedals into the first major mountain
climbs of this year’s race. (velonews.com)
July 17, 2014 Specialized-lululemon
swept the stage 3 podium at the Internationale Thüringen Rundfahrt der
Frauen in Germany on Thursday. Lisa
Brennauer claimed her second stage win of the race, after
dominating the individual time trial. She covered the 21km course in
28:59, and beat her teammates Evelyn
Stevens by 17 seconds and Trixi Worrack by 49
seconds. (cyclingnews.com)
July 17, 2014 US
pro champion Eric
Marcottte sprinted to victory Wednesday during stage 1 of
the Cascade Cycling Classic in Bend, Oregon, and claimed the overall
race lead from Optum Pro Cycling's Tom
Zirbel. (cyclingnews.com)

race lead in Yinchaun. (cyclingnews.com)
July 17, 2014 Rui Costa’s Tour de
France ambitions have been dealt a blow, as the world champion has been
diagnosed with acute bronchitis. The Lampre-Merida rider struggled with
his breathing during yesterday’s stage to Oyonnax and lost 1:32 on the
other general classification contenders. (cyclingnews.com)
July 17, 2014 The
rest day was also an opportunity for Tour de France teams to prepare
for the heat which suddenly hit the race on Wednesday.

July 17, 2014 There
are places that are woven deep into the culture of road cycling. As the
Tour de France moves into its second century it has arguably made icons
of just a handful of mountains: the Col
du Tourmalet, Mont
Ventoux and, with a place on most road riders’ bucket
list, Alpe d’Huez.
It is this climb that makes champions every time it is included in the
Tour. (cyclingtips.com.au)
July 17, 2014 The
Chamrousse climb, which is the MTF and main attraction tomorrow, is the
#1 rated climb of the entire Tour de France! That sounds awesome and
scary. (podiumcafe.com)
July 17, 2014 Friday's Tour de
France Stage 13 departs Saint-Etienne at 11:50am CET (5:50am U.S.
Eastern) and is expected at the finish at Chamrousse at around 5:22pm

should get underway at around 2:15pm CET (8:15am U.S.

July 17, 2014 July 16, 2014 July 16, 2014 July 16, 2014 | Former
UCI president, Pat
McQuaid has resiled from his most critical comments on Lance Armstrong, and
almost a year on from losing office he now believes the disgraced
American was unfairly treated and was the victim of a witch hunt.

July 17, 2014 “The
mistakes made were made in the past, made by a lot of riders, but we
have to let that go and move ahead to the new riders who want to try to
change cycling,” team Astana’s Nibali
said. “We are showing that with the biological passport and out of
competition controls at home.” (cyclingweekly.co.uk)
July 17, 2014 Andrew Talansky did
not start stage 12 of the Tour de France, due to the injuries that he
sustained earlier in the race. As a result of two crashes in the
opening week of the race, Talansky
has acute sacroiliitis – an inflammation of the sacroiliac joint, which
connects the iliac bone, in the pelvis, to the spine. In addition, the
American has been suffering with an upper respiratory infection.

July 17, 2014 Tejay van Garderen
leaned against his bike, seeking shade under the BMC Racing team bus
awning, staying cool before the inevitable battle of Thursday’s hilly
stage across the Massif Central. (velonews.com)
July 17, 2014 Geraint Thomas led
Great Britain around the track to two Olympic gold medals and showed
last week in the Tour de France that he is pushing for something
similar for Sky team-mate Richie
Porte. Just as Porte
did when working for Bradley
Wiggins and Chris
Froome, Thomas
appears to be paving his own path towards Tour fame.

July 17, 2014 Richie Porte's years
as a loyal Tour de France underling are paying off as he fights to
become only the second Australian to win the race, Cadel Evans said
Thursday. (sbs.com.au)
July 17, 2014 After
collecting junior world championship titles in both cross-country
mountain biking and the winter sport of cyclocross, Sagan focused his
competitive interests toward the road. It wasn’t hard for anyone who
saw him ride to imagine big things in his future, either. This was,
after all, the kid who raced in sneakers and a T-shirt and summarily
schooled everybody. (bikemag.com)

to attack – it's only let down by a few finishing kit choices."

July 17, 2014 Anna
Weltman: "I
am looking for participants to be in a Research Study that I am
conducting for my Master's thesis in Sport Psychology. My thesis is on
cyclists who crash
and what it takes to get them back on the bike after they have
recovered. Please email me to volunteer" (dougreport.com)
July 17, 2014 It’s
sheer speculation at this point, but it sure looks like Mavic has a new
pair of ultra-light road shoes in the pipeline. Spotted this past week
at the Tour de France, these slick-looking black and yellow numbers on
the feet of Ag2r-La Mondiale star Christophe
Riblon. (roadbikereview.com)
July 17, 2014 July 16, 2014 | July 17, 2014 With
Vincenzo Nibali
comfortably installed in the yellow jersey and the only one of the
three pre-race favorites to make it to the big mountain stages you
could be excused for thinking it's all over in the Tour de France. That
would be doing a disservice to the riders directly behind the Italian
because although they might be wondering what they can do against a Nibali in top form
they'll also be wondering how they can ambush each other.

Tiernan-Locke has been banned for two years over irregular

July 17, 2014 The
Village Depart was still talking at the start in Bourg-en-Bresse this
morning about Andrew
Talansky's ordeal in the stage to Oyonnax, when the
American finished inside the time cut despite a painful back injury.

will have riders near the front of the bunch to monitor events. It’s
typically called “filtering”, let those riders through who you don’t
mind going up the road but to catch the ones you’re worried
about. (inrng.com)
July 17, 2014 "He
might have a huge advantage in the green jersey competition, but I
think it’s safe to say that this Tour has been frustrating for Peter Sagan. He’s
been second three times on stages, as well as three times fourth and
once fifth. On stage 11 he was in a break clear at the end, but the
other riders in it marked him really closely and this allowed Tony Gallopin to get
away for the win." (cyclingtips.com.au)
July 17, 2014 French
riders and teams have struggled to make a strong impression on their
national tour for the past two decades. No French rider has won le Tour
since Bernard Hinault
in 1985 and none have made the podium since Richard Virenque
placed second back in 1997. But this year, the French seem to be poised
for an upwards swing. (podiumcafe.com)
July 17, 2014 Former
Tour de France rider, Brian
Robinson has been hit by a car on a training ride in his

wearer, crashed and suspectedly broke his collarbone, his son-in-law Martyn Bolt told the

July 17, 2014 "So

July 17, 2014 Prior
to Lance Armstrong
in 1999 non-Campy wins were as rare as a clean cyclist. Of
those exceptions, some of the more interesting victories were Mavic’s,
and none of them were more memorable than the group that Greg LeMond rode on
his TVT carbon on his way to victory in the 1989 Tour de France.

July 17, 2014 Once
upon a time, most stems had quills that inserted into the steerer tube.
The stems were made from forged aluminum. Cinelli, 3TTT and others
offered them. They were attractive and relatively lightweight, and stem
failures were unheard of. Many of these old stems are still ridden
daily, decades after they were made. (janheine.wordpress.com)
