It was touted as the Queen stage of the Vosges and even the Queen stage of the entire Tour by some and Stage 10 didn’t disappoint with the action on show. Once again crashes unfortunately dominated the news with the big loss of Alberto Contador but nothing could overshadow the performance of Vincenzo Nibali who reigned supreme in the Vosges. When Vincenzo Nibali attacked in the finale of today's Tour de France stage, only Richie Porte showed any will to try to bring him back. Despite moving into second in the overall standings, the Australian was slightly frustrated not having received any help. (cyclingquotes.com)

Alejandro Valverde moved a step closer to his big goal of the Tour de France podium when he finished third in today's big mountain stage and assumed the same position in the overall standings. For the second day in a row, Tony Martin rode most of a Tour de France stage on his own when he tried to set up his teammate Michal Kwiatkowski for a big coup that could have given him both the stage win and the yellow jersey. Frank Schleck and Haimar Zubeldia started to claw back some of the time they have already lost when they finished in the top 16 of today's big mountain stage of the Tour de France. Tinkoff-Saxo's Alberto Contador has been left with a fractured tibia after his fall in the Tour de France during stage 10 on Monday. The Spanish climber crashed midway through the stage and despite continuing was forced to abandon. (cyclingnews.com)

Initial reports on the Tour’s race radio, in French, and by NBC Sports’ Steve Porino, that Contador’s bike was “in pieces,” appear to be correct. “His frame snapped in half. The Planche des Belles Filles is a novelty that first appeared in the Tour de France in 2012 after the Tour de France boss Christian Prudhomme came across cyclists buzzing about the climb on a forum. It’s back for the 2014 Tour and could well feature again and again. (inrng.com)

Having originally decided to abandon, he changed his mind and fought his way to the finish alongside teammate Andreas Schillinger.
