Photo: I'm sad I couldn't bring the fans some joy at the end of this Tour; I would have liked to make it into the podium, too, but on the other hand, I'm happy with this result.
Alejandro Valverde knew that this year would probably be his final chance to realize his dream of finishing on the podium. Today it was broken when he finished far off the pace in the time trial and he will now ride into Paris in fourth overall. (cyclingquotes.com)

Leopold Konig arguably pulled off the ride of the day and certainly the time trial of his life to move up from ninth to seventh in the Tour de France on Saturday. The Czech rider finished fifth behind stage winner Tony Martin in the 54-kilometer time trial between to Périgueux and overhauled the Belkin pair of Laurens ten Dam and Bauke Mollema in the overall. Sylvain Chavanel bounced back from a disappointing Tour de France by producing a great ride in today's time trial. The Frenchman finished 8th and narrowly missed his goal of a top 5 finish. (cyclingquotes.com)

Jens Debusschere had to wait a long time before getting the chance to ride his first race in the Belgian champion's jersey but it was definitely worth waiting for his chance to make his debut. Today he won the first stage of the Tour de Wallonie, his very first outing in the prestigious Drikleur. (cyclingquotes.com)

Having won the race twice in a row, the 2014 Tour de France was one to forget for Team Sky. The race comes at the back of a very disappointing season and team leader Richie Porte is philosophical about the disappointments, claiming that the team maybe needed an off-year after their recent dominance. For the fourth time in the span of just two months, Tom Dumoulin finished second behind Tony Martin in a time trial when he was beaten by the world champion in the Tour de France today. This time, however, he was not even close to the German and the result felt like a victory for the Dutchman. (cyclingquotes.com)

Being up against two riders that were either past or current national time trial champions, Thibaut Pinot was the rider most likely to miss out on a podium spot in the penultimate stage of the Tour de France. Due to the lack of expectations, he felt no pressure and did a great performance to finish 12th and will now end the race in third overall. (cyclingquotes.com)

If Tour de France history means anything then Vincenzo Nibali will win the stage 20 time trial on Saturday and confirm his overall victory in this 101st edition of the world’s greatest bike race. Twice before, the Tour has staged long time trials on the rolling roads of the Dordogne between the cities of Bergerac and Périgueux. And both times the stage winner was the eventual Tour champion: Frenchman Jacques Anquetil in 1961 and Spaniard Miguel Induráin in 1994. (pelotonmagazine.com)

Tony Martin took the expected dominant victory in today's Tour de France time trial but soon faced the usual questions about the absence of Fabian Cancellara and Bradley Wiggins. Bauke Mollema was the big loser in today's stage of the Tour de France when he slipped from 7th to 10th in the overall standings. The Dutchman regretted his decision to use a new bike on a bad day when his teammate Laurens Ten Dam dropped from 8th to 9th. (cyclingquotes.com)

The nasty rain falling on the peloton at the Tour this year has revealed a surprising fact. The greatest single piece of tech at the 2014 Tour de France isn’t space age new wheels or fancy electronic shifting, it’s not an aero bike or a feather weight climber. It’s fabric, zippers and leather stitched together to make the Rapha Wet Bag. (pelotonmagazine.com)

Chip Handley set some huge cycling goals for himself before he shifted gears to focus on riding with his family. A few years ago, the Scotts Valley resident rode more than 10 century rides (1,000 miles), completed all five mountain passes of the notorious Death Ride in Markleeville (15,000-plus feet of climbing) and will now top off his lung-busting, leg-burning season by riding the grueling Santa Cruz Mountains Challenge.
