Alejandro Valverde soloed to victory in the Clásica San Sebastián on Saturday. The Spaniard made his move on the final climb of the 219km WorldTour race through the Basque Country, helping forge a five-man lead group on the subsequent descent, then dropping it with 4km to go and holding his advantage to the line. Roman Kreuziger has been provisionally suspended by the UCI Anti-doping Commission. The rider was notified today with his team set to issue a press release confirming the news. Kreuziger was set to ride the Tour of Poland which starts on Sunday. Kreuziger's provisional suspension does not relate directly to the findings of his passport case but to any possible race results he may pick up while his current case goes on. (cyclingnews.com)

Yesterday’s look at the 1 August date skimmed over the “rarely used “mid-season transfer window. But later in the day we saw the announcement of Rohan Dennis’s immediate move from Garmin-Sharp to BMC Racing. It’s testimony to sport’s special status that when an employee is allowed to move from one job to another it’s considered headline news.
