The sky spit rain down in Woodland Park Friday morning. Of course it did, with the tall Hoosier Pass on tap, via Alma, North America’s highest incorporated town. Before the racing can begin, a game of pass the parcel breaks out among the contenders for the Vuelta a España. Bookmakers’ fancy Nairo Quintana has claimed that the onus is on other teams to control the peloton. Alberto Contador, meanwhile, insists that Chris Froome is the outstanding favorite for victory. Jan Bakelants will ride for AG2R-La Mondiale next season, according to Belgian Newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws. The French outfit has offered him a free role within the team, something he feels that he lacks at Omega Pharma QuickStep. Dutch cyclist Annefleur Kalvenhaar has died in the hospital after crashing during qualifying at the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Méribel, France. The 20-year-old Kalvenhaar was the reigning under-23 European Cyclocross champion and under-23 Dutch mountain bike champion. (cyclingnews.com)
