"A wider tire will not have a larger contact patch if it is run at the same pressure as a skinnier tire. (That’s why I specified that the rider was using lower pressure with the wider tire.) A tire inflated to 100psi sitting on a flat, smooth surface and holding up 100 pounds of weight will have one square inch of contact with the surface.
