On Sunday we all watched and listened to the USA Pro Cycling Challenge which was a celebration of Jens Vogt's final race of his illustrious career. But there was another rider in the peloton who was also competing his final race; Ben Day. As Jane Aubrey writes, Day's career was filled with talent, glory and mishaps that took him a down a different path. (cyclingtips.com.au)

"I would peg this as a stage-hunter's game for climber types. There's a long list of riders in need of some attention and points. Samuel Sanchez? Amets Txurruka? Alex Kolobnev? [Needing a change in the type of attention he's getting.] Johan Chaves? Chris Anker Sorensen?"

Photo: The tape on Contador's right leg is one of the few pieces of evidence of his Tour de France-ending crash. The Spaniard finished with the front group on stage 3, despite his time off to recover from the fracture. Photo: Tim De Waele | TDWsport.com.
Alberto Contador shouldn’t even be in this Vuelta a España. Barely a month ago, the Spanish superstar crashed out of the Tour de France with a broken leg. A fractured bone seemed to be a death sentence for Contador’s 2014 season, on the side of an innocuous French road in the Vosges mountains. Everyone close to him says he was in the best form of his career. (velonews.com)

The Salzkammergut Trophy is Austria’s most famous MTB race, and its largest, this year attracting 4,256 participants. This is a huge race – I took part in the 119km race but there are several other events over three days, the longest being a 211km cross-country sufferfest that took some competitors over 15 hours to finish. The E100 tubular road wheel is the brand's most radical new offering, and with an MSRP of $3,800, it should be. The E100 weighs just 1,050 grams per set, with a 45 mm-deep rim with Easton's Fantom Rim aero profile and tensioned carbon spokes. (bicycleretailer.com)

Photo: it is only a precious handful that produce bikes which differ significantly from their competitors. LOOK is among that happy few.
Of all the high-end machines we tested on the admittedly limited 7km demo circuit in Friedrichschafen, the 795 Aerolight was the most eager: quick out of the blocks and unwilling to sacrifice speed once gained. Several reasons will lie behind such pleasing alacrity, of course, not least Mavic’s rather wonderful Cosmic Carbone 40c full carbon clinchers, but the chassis certainly played its part.
