Although he relied on his team’s firepower to control the race, Young was mostly on his own in the final sprint. He kept his cool as the pace fluctuated in the long, straight final drag, to jump at just the right moment and claim his fourth major victory of 2014. (velonews.com)

Sergey Shilov showed exceptional power and great sprinting skills to win today’s stage 8 in the Volta a Portugal in an uphill sprint. Having positioned himself perfectly on the Samuel Caldeira’s wheel, he powered clear of his rivals to hold off Caldeira and Manuel Cardoso by a convincing margin. Despite working as a lead-out man in the finale, Gustavo Cesar Veloso defended his overall lead on the eve of the time trial. (cyclingquotes.com)

Tom Danielson doesn’t like the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah. He loves it. The precipitous climbs at altitude found in the Wasatch Range are tailor-made for the Garmin-Sharp rider’s lungs-on-legs physique, as highlighted by his dominance of stage 4 in which he took the victory by 57 seconds and moved into the yellow leader’s jersey. Photo: Another nice metric with the Pioneer is that of pedalling efficiency (upper right), calculated as the ratio of positive tangential force (force at 90° to the crank’s position that is actually usefully turning the crank) versus total force. Perfection with no wasted power would be 100%, and improving this efficiency helps in actually laying more power onto the road.
Pioneer introduced their first power meter in late 2013 and now after working with Belkin Pro Cycling have thoroughly re-engineered and re-envisioned the system, coming out with many improvements to the power meter and a brand new smaller but more feature-packed computer. (pezcyclingnews.com)
