November 1, 2014 Dutch
cyclocrosser Sophie de
Boer, teammate of American Elle Anderson,
survived the tough climbs and tricky descents to take a solo victory
over Belgians Jolien
Verscheuren and Sanne
Cant.
De Boer didn’t have the best start, and found herself chasing defending champion Helen Wyman and Nikki Harris after missing her pedal at the line. But on the first time up the climb, de Boer made contact with the leaders and went on to solo the last three laps, finishing with 15 seconds ahead of a chasing Verscheuren. (cxmagazine.com) November 1, 2014 Two
days ago Matthias Brändle
secured himself a place in the history books. The 24-year-old Austrian
set a new Hour Record, just a few weeks after Jens Voigt had added
his name to the list. Belgian time trial champion reflected on the
record in an interview with Sporza. (cyclingquotes.com)

November 1, 2014 UCI
president Brian Cookson
hopes that the recent run of Hour Record attempts will persuade yet
more riders to take on the test. In May of this year, the UCI relaxed
the rules regarding equipment in the hope to re-ignite the flagging
event. Since the rules changed the retiring Jens Voigt and IAM
Cycling rider Matthias
Brändle have stepped up to the plate, but Cookson wants more.

November 1, 2014 For
all the speculation that follows the annual announcement of the
following year’s Tour de France route, the predictions rarely come
true. At least, that’s been the case for most of the past decade. Few
pundits, if any, picked Óscar
Pereiro (2006), Alberto
Contador (2007), Carlos
Sastre (2008), Andy
Schleck (2010), Cadel
Evans (2011) or Vincenzo
Nibali (2014) as the eventual winners nine months before
the race. Which leaves just Contador
(2009), Brad Wiggins
(2012) and Chris Froome
(2013) as early favorites who proved the tipsters right.

November 1, 2014 In
1979, Professor Peter
Elwood and his team at Cardiff University launched a
long-term study investigating how people's lifestyles affected their
health. The Caerphilly Cohort Study is the longest-running of its kind
and involved 90 per cent of the middle aged men living in the county at
the time. The findings, while hardly surprising, have been described as
‘a wake up call’ by Elwood.

November 1, 2014 Encouraging
final performances in the Team Sky outfit could have been a sign that
there is still a chance for Edvald
Boasson Hagen
to turn things around and give his stagnating career an entirely new
spin as a part of MTN-Qhubeka next season. (cyclingquotes.com)
November 1, 2014 The
hardest climb you’ve never heard of? The Giro d’Italia has included the
Colle Fauniera sparingly and needs to go back at some point to correct
past mistakes. For everyone else it’s open all
summer. (inrng.com)

November 1, 2014 The
recent Astana doping cases highlighted for all to see the issues
between the MPCC and the UCI.
Astana could face a fine of 100,000 CHF as they missed the Tour of Beijing, yet the MPCC, which Astana is a member of, dictates that a team should suspend themselves from racing for eight days if they have two positives in less than a year. (cyclingquotes.com) November 1, 2014 Pelucchi dreams of
