Klaas Vantornout used his bike skills and power to dominate the deep mud and slippery conditions and so win the Superprestige Asper-Gavere race on Belgium on Sunday.
The tall Belgian managed to go clear alone just before the start of the last lap as teammate Kevin Pauwels slipped in the mud and briefly delayed Tom Meeusen. (cyclingnews.com)

Katerina Nash has become relentless as she hit her cyclocross season in full swing, taking a six in a row victory at Jingle Cross. Caroline Mani and Courtenay McFadden finished behind in second and third, respectively. McFadden, the leading American rider on the day, has been building her case as one of the top riders in the nation, and will surely continue to push herself to contend for the world’s team. Although he surged back into the overall Superprestige series lead with a tremendous come-from-behind effort to take third in Gavere on Sunday, Belgian champion Sven Nys has as of yet been unable to add any more victories to his palmarès in the series.
Even Nys-haters will acknowledge that the cyclo-cross legend is the reference in every race he starts. That wasn't any different at the fourth Superprestige round in Gavere. (cyclingnews.com)

The organizers of the KMC Cyclo-cross Festival in Providence, Rhode Island, announced this week that they intend to bid for inclusion in the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup after receiving encouragement from both the UCI and the support of the state's Governor, Lincoln Chafee, and the Mayor-elect of Providence, Jorge Elorza. European and Belgian champion Sanne Cant won a very muddy edition of the Gavere Superprestige race on Sunday afternoon after a race-long duel with Nikki Harris.
The 24 year-old Belgian rider showed off her technical skills during a strong final lap. A mud-clad Harris rolled across the finish line in second place at short distance behind Cant. More than a minute later Ellen van Loy captured the final podium spot. (cyclingnews.com)

The Sunweb – Napoleon Games team had arguably one of its best days of racin on Sunday at the Superprestige in Gavere, Belgium. "Gavere is ours," team manager Jurgen Mettepenningen claimed after the team managed eight podium finishes on Sunday, including Klaas Vantornout and Kevin Pauwels taking the top two spots in the Elite Men category. The organizers of the second edition of the Dubai Tour hope the lack of an opening time trial will mean the race is decided by just a few seconds, with the hillier third stage in the Hatta hills likely to spark the only time gaps between the riders and so decide the overall winner. After several years at the continental level, Stefan Schumacher will return to the professional ranks when he joins CCC Polsat-Polkowice. The German will focus on time trials, shorter stage races and the classics in his first year with the Polish team.

Three doctors and a UCI official who examined Marco Pantani’s anti-doping test in the 1999 Giro d’Italia will be heard in court in the coming weeks as part of a case that involves Mafia gangs fixing sport.
Pantani was thrown out of the Giro that year while wearing the Maglia Rosa due to having a high haematocrit level.

With six months to the start of Paris-Roubaix, BMC has tested the bikes for the hellish classic. A group including Greg Van Avermaet did a small lap that included the Carrefour de l'Arbre. The Irish cycling community has lost a well known and popular member following the passing of Dubliner Dermot McGrath after a training crash.
