The
2014 UCI WorldTour season will draw to a close in Beijing, with the
fourth edition of the Chinese race rolling out on Friday October 10.
And though the pre-race build-up has been dominated by the riders who will not take the start line, those who do start will have still plenty to fight for. (roadcyclinguk.com) October 8, 2014 The
Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has confirmed the list of teams
with WorldTour licences for 2015, along with squads looking to extend
licences into the future.
AG2R La Mondiale, Astana, Lampre-Merida, Lotto Soudal, Movistar, Orica GreenEdge, Team Europcar, Giant-Alpecin, Team Katusha and Team Sky all have existing licences for 2015. (cyclingnews.com) October 8, 2014 The
final deadline for WorldTour application passed more than a week ago
and it looks like the UCI may be short one team at the top. With the
Garmin and Cannondale teams merging next season, there may be only 17
teams remaining at WorldTour level. (cyclingnews.com)

October 8, 2014 Last
Sunday the cyclocross season kicked off under a cloud of relatively
significant uncertainty, for a sport that has been a two- or three-man
battle for quite some time. Niels
Albert, one of those two (or three), was freshly retired
due to heart trouble and was busy either coaching a team or filming an
extremely goofy promo segment where he's trapped in a small camper with
a beautiful woman. Sven
Nys is... well, he's Sven,
but at some point he'll get old, right? I mean, nobody defeats Death in
the end. If someone were to, it could be Sven, but Death is
very fast in the sand. Also, if you're into omens, there's this. And
it's not promising. (podiumcafe.com)
October 8, 2014 Last
weekend’s Tour of Lombardy winner, Dan
Martin’s trip to China for the Tour of Beijing has not
exactly gone according to plan thus far.
After a nine and a half hour flight, Martin and his Garmin Sharp teammates found their bikes held up by customs and were forced to drive to their hotel without them. (stickybottle.com) October 8, 2014 "I
took up cycling so that I could go places, see things. Even without
having thought through my urge, I had an instinctive understanding that
seeing the world from the saddle of the bike was a better perspective.
It is a fundamental truth of cycling, perhaps cycling’s most obvious
truth, but we each arrive at it on our own, an epiphany that arrives
with the same pleasant shock as our first kiss."
October 8, 2014 "The
few rides I’ve had with the Power Meter so far, I’ve found myself
“Looking at Stems”. And the mere thought of knowing I will be putting
myself through pain just because some little electronic device on my
stem is telling me I’m riding shite, well, it sends shivers down my
spine." (wednesdaylegs.wordpress.com)

verdict: 4.5 out of 5
stars. "Brilliant handling bike with superb performance and reliable
build kit, let down by fiddly seatclamp." (road.cc)

Neri Sottoli top the Coppa Italia rankings, which usually leads to
automatic selection for the Giro d'Italia. The Giro d’Italia may have to
welcome back team Neri Sottoli for its 2015 edition, in favor of teams
like MTN-Qhubeka and Colombia, despite a series of doping cases and
controversy. (cyclingweekly.co.uk)
October 8, 2014 Movement
for Credible Cycling president Roger
Legeay has rejected the idea that Astana did not act
within the spirit of MPCC rules in its handling of Maxim and Valentin Iglinskiy’s
recent positive tests for EPO, which led to the team’s withdrawal from
this week’s Tour of Beijing. (cyclingnews.com)
October 8, 2014 Astana’s
decision to auto-suspend themselves from participation in the Tour of
Beijing in order to meet the MPCC requirements, forced Lieuwe Westra to
change his initial race program and prematurely end his 2014 season. As
a consequence, the 32-year old Dutchman confessed to be saddened by
both doping cases at Kazakh team and missing this week’s Giro
dell’Emilia and GP Bruno Beghelli. (cyclingquotes.com)
October 8, 2014 The
end of the season always brings with it the news of transfers and
retirements, of speculations for next season and goals. American team
BMC Racing will see a changing of the guard of sorts, as Cadel Evans and Thor Hushovd will
both retire. (velonews.com)
October 8, 2014 Speaking
in advance of Sunday’s Paris-Tours, a race known as the Sprinters’
Classic, young French contender Arnaud
Démare has expressed growing confidence about his
prospects and also his place amongst the fast men of cycling.
The 23 year old has clocked up 15 wins thus far this year. He was victorious on stage 6 of the Tour of Qatar, took two stages plus the overall in both the Four Days of Dunkirk and the Tour de Picardie, then won Halle Ingooigem and the French road race championships. (cyclingtips.com.au). October 8, 2014 "I
used to think I was smart. I used to think I was handsome. I used to
think I was going to be rich. I used to think I was good in bed. I used
to think I was going to have a good job. I used to think life was fair.
I used to think I was a climber." (pelotonmagazine.com) October 8, 2014 The
whistleblower lawsuit has been ongoing for four years already, but it
could be another two years before there is a final ruling on the case,
according to VeloNews. Lance
Armstrong’s former teammate Floyd Landis brought
the case against the Texan in 2010, claiming that he had defrauded the
US government by using the funds from their sponsor the US Postal
Service for performance enhancing drugs. Since then, Landis has been
joined by the US Department of Justice. (cyclingnews.com)
October 8, 2014 In
the winter, our riding opportunities dwindle like the fading daylight.
But that doesn't mean you have to lose fitness. All cyclists can
benefit from an organised and deliberate winter gym programme. Adding
resistance training to your winter routine will help you begin your
next cycling season ahead of the game. (bikeradar.com)
October 8, 2014 October 7, 2014 | October 8, 2014 It’s
official: 17 Teams are chasing 18 World Tour Places as the likes of IAM
Cycling and MTN-Qhubeka prefer, for now, to stay in cycling’s second
division knowing they’ll collect plenty of wildcard invitations. No
surprises but several reader questions by email and Twitter following
today’s announcement. Here’s a Q&A on the teams, timing and
more. (inrng.com)
October 8, 2014 American
Joe Dombrowski
will soon end his time with Team Sky and make the switch next season to
what is currently the Garmin-Sharp team, but will become Cannondale
next season. It has been a bit tougher going than anticipated for the
young climber from Virginia. After a solid 2012 with
Bontrager-Livestrong that saw him climb into public view at the Amgen
Tour of California and win the Girobio, he’s battled injury for two
years on Sky, and recently had surgery on his left leg to fix an
arterial issue. He’s back to training again. (velonews.com)

had a marketing brain wave and decided that the publicity is worth the

spent 14 seasons on Tinkoff-Saxo as a trusted teammate playing the part
of super domestique while enjoying personal success as well. He rode
the last kilometers of his active career in Giro di Lombardia, which he
calls “a very emotional experience.” (cyclingquotes.com)

favorite shots to bring you ‘The Last Word’ (or picture) from the
Rainbow jersey competition. (pezcyclingnews.com)
