Tinkoff-Saxo
owner Oleg Tinkov
proposed that the sport’s four best grand tour riders contest the
Vuelta a España, Giro d’Italia, and Tour de France, and split one
million euros between them for their trouble. Possible? Maybe.
Intriguing? Sure. Crazy? Maybe.
Mum’s been the word from Chris Froome, Nairo Quintana, and Alberto Contador. However, Vincenzo Nibali eschewed the idea Friday, noting it was self-promotion and little else on Tinkov’s behalf, and that the biggest grand tour riders “certainly” didn’t need the Russian’s money. year I complain about the lack of prominence given this race. Maybe I
should shut up? My usual rant about the Giro dell'Emilia has
to do with the visual beauty of this race, the difficult course with
its selective finish, and the incredible action that makes it a more
Catholic-looking Flech Wallonne." (podiumcafe.com)

October 10, 2014 | October 10, 2014 "I
started racing bikes when I was twelve years old. I went to many
places, raced all over Europe, and rode thousands upon thousands of
miles in races. There are a lot of days of racing that I don’t
remember; oftentimes, someone else will have a better recollection of
that race than I would. One important day in cycling I will forever
remember is the day Lance
Armstrong announced that he wouldn’t fight USADA."
October 10, 2014 Andy Shleck is alive
and well. A lot of the coverage of his retirement has resembled an
obituary, with sorrow at his sudden departure, talk of a promising
career that stopped too early and people sharing fond memories. Apart
from a knee that can’t take the demands of pro cycling – the doctors
said if he kept riding he’d need a knee transplant before he’s 40 –
he’s in rude health, has a young family and he’s a millionaire too.
He’ll be ok. (inrng.com)

October 10, 2014 The
expansion of the women’s race from La Course, a one-day event, to a

October 10, 2014 Sonny Colbrelli continued
