Tinkoff-Saxo owner Oleg Tinkov proposed that the sport’s four best grand tour riders contest the Vuelta a España, Giro d’Italia, and Tour de France, and split one million euros between them for their trouble. Possible? Maybe. Intriguing? Sure. Crazy? Maybe.
Mum’s been the word from Chris Froome, Nairo Quintana, and Alberto Contador. However, Vincenzo Nibali eschewed the idea Friday, noting it was self-promotion and little else on Tinkov’s behalf, and that the biggest grand tour riders “certainly” didn’t need the Russian’s money. (velonews.com)

More sprint success for Giant-Shimano as Luka Mezgec takes opening stage of final 2014 WorldTour race in China. Recently crowned Tour of Lombardy winner, Dan Martin got back to business today in the Tour of Beijing’s opening stage where he finished in the belly of the bunch in the same time as stage winner Luka Mezgec.
Martin crossed the line in 68th place, as Slovenian rider Mezgec took the spoils from rising star Caleb Ewan of Orica-GreenEDGE.
Martin’s team-mate, Tyler Farrar rounded out the podium. (stickybottle.com)

Photo: The TV thing has reached a new height of insanity: once again the Giro dell'Emilia, one of the most watchable races of the entire sport, a race where Nairo Quintana announced his interesting future, joining Coppi, Bartali, Merckx et al in the winner's circle, will get a half-hour of delayed TV coverage. © Getty Images Sport
"Every year I complain about the lack of prominence given this race. Maybe I should shut up? My usual rant about the Giro dell'Emilia has to do with the visual beauty of this race, the difficult course with its selective finish, and the incredible action that makes it a more Catholic-looking Flech Wallonne." No sooner had the 2015 Giro d’Italia route been announced than speculation began as to who would be on the start line for the opening stage team time trial to San Remo.
Tinkoff-Saxo boss Oleg Tinkov is among those keen for the WorldTour’s very best to tackle the season-opening Grand Tour, with his team’s leader – Alberto Contador – already set for the race. (roadcyclinguk.com)

The Russian businessman Oleg Tinkov would like to see the four tenors in major cycling tours in 2015 to compete on the roads of the three major stage races : Giro, Tour and Vuelta. He dreams of seeing Alberto Contador, Chris Froome, Vincenzo Nibali and Nairo Quintana compete in all three races. The team boss Saxo-Tinkoff offers for this a million in compensation. "I started racing bikes when I was twelve years old. I went to many places, raced all over Europe, and rode thousands upon thousands of miles in races. There are a lot of days of racing that I don’t remember; oftentimes, someone else will have a better recollection of that race than I would. One important day in cycling I will forever remember is the day Lance Armstrong announced that he wouldn’t fight USADA."

Photo: There is an obvious element of disappointment and the unfulfilled promise.
Andy Shleck is alive and well. A lot of the coverage of his retirement has resembled an obituary, with sorrow at his sudden departure, talk of a promising career that stopped too early and people sharing fond memories. Apart from a knee that can’t take the demands of pro cycling – the doctors said if he kept riding he’d need a knee transplant before he’s 40 – he’s in rude health, has a young family and he’s a millionaire too. He’ll be ok. (inrng.com)

The expansion of the women’s race from La Course, a one-day event, to a weeklong stage race would be a huge step in women’s cycling. Photo: If I were Oleg Tinkov, I would use the money to start some development teams. That would create a great future for the sport.
Vincenzo Nibali is not really excited about the offer from Oleg Tinkov. The Team boss of Tinkov-Saxo proposed earlier this week to Nairo Quintana, Chris Froome, Alberto Contador and Nibali one million dollar, when do would ride the Giro, Tour and Vuelta in 2015.
