Dan Martin has blasted to summit victory in China today, showing that once he is in this kind of form he is very hard to beat. (stickybottle.com).
Ireland’s Dan Martin took the fourth stage of the Tour of Beijing with an extraordinary uphill sprint on Monday, but Belgian Philippe Gilbert stayed just close enough to keep the overall lead.
Martin, who won the Giro di Lombardia earlier this month, struck in the last kilometer of the long climb up Miaofeng Mountain in Mentougou, after a series of attacks had been reeled in by the peloton. (velonews.com)

Philippe Gilbert had to dig deep during stage 4 on Mentougou Miaofeng Mountain to keep Dan Martin in his sights and the Tour of Beijing race lead tightly in his grasp. The Belgian Classics specialist was expected to hand over the jersey he took control of on day two, at the end of the day - in fact he thought he had lost it and had a tense wait to find out he’d done enough to stay ahead of the Garmin-Sharp rider. Mick Rogers clocked up two stage wins in the Giro d’Italia, while Majka finished sixth overall in the race. The duo also stepped up and delivered after Contador’s retirement from the Tour, with Majka netting two stages plus the mountains classification and Rogers taking the first Tour stage win of his career.
Their team leader returned for the Vuelta a España and took the overall victory plus two stage wins, showing that his recovery from a fractured tibia was complete. (cyclingtips.com.au)

Choice of lines in the final sprint made the difference in the men’s race Sunday during the second day of the Cross Crusade’s opening weekend at Alpenrose Dairy. After battling throughout the race to regain the lead group, Giant’s Carl Decker swung wide out of the last corner and found clear sailing to the finish ahead of Kona’s Spencer Paxson, who took the inside line and ran into lapped traffic that blocked his path to the line. Sidelined for several months this season as a result of his positive test for clenbuterol at last year’s Japan Cup, Tinkoff Saxo rider Mick Rogers has said that while his suspension – later reversed by the UCI – was a very stressful period, that it ultimately made him a much better rider.
The Australian told CyclingTips that the period led to a complete re-evaluation of his mental and physical approach to cycling, with the enforced break from competition giving him time to reflect, to rethink how he had traditionally done things and to tackle the demands of cycling in a different way. Tyler Farrar won the third stage of the Tour of Beijing on Sunday, ending a season-long victory drought at the final WorldTour race of the year.
The longest stage of the tour, the 176km stage served up tricky climbs followed by rapid descents, and Farrar came out of nowhere near the end to take the victory. (velonews.com)

Talented Joe Dombrowski was expected to fully develop his great potential after joining Team Sky in 2013, but health issues prevented him from performing in line with such expectations. It took no less than 18 months to eventually diagnose his problem correctly, but the British team won’t benefit from successful surgery of the 23-year old American as he will join Cannondale for 2015. Photo: Having a strong core is vital if you’re going to improve as a cyclist. Photography by Cor Vos
Having ‘good form’ on the bike incorporates a number of elements. On a superficial level, it’s about how you look on the bike; at a more nuanced level, it’s about ensuring that your setup on the bike is good, that your pedalling style is efficient, that you’re using the muscles you should, and that you’re getting as much out of your riding as you can. "Lately, I’ve been in a bit of a road bike funk. I haven’t done a proper road ride since the Motherlode Century back in May. The summer has been consumed with riding dirt, and really, I have not been missing the pavement all that much. I needed a shot in the arm of some choice asphalt, and I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about Levi Leipheimer’s King Ridge GranFondo. So I figured it was worth shaving my legs and slapping some 25c road tires on the cyclocross bike to see what all the hubbub was about." (roadbikereview.com)

The non-UCI legal Slice is designed specifically for the needs of saddle-forward triathletes, with Cannondale and fit partner Guru undertaking analysis of thousands of multi-sporters’ riding positions to inform the new steep seat-angled geometry. There is also a women’s version of the bike (though not available in the UK); its geometry remains the same, but sizes range from 44 to 60cm, so sizing shouldn’t be an issue in any territory. (bikeradar.com)
