Italy's Davide Rebellin (CCC Polsat Polkowice) wins Giro dell'Emilia

Davide Rebellin again proved that age is just a number when he won the 97th edition of the Italian semi-classic Giro dell’Emilia, one of Italy’s most prestigious one-day races. The Italian attacked out of a 5-rider group on the famous San Luca climb, passed a fading Angel Madrazo and held off Franco Pellizotti to win the race 8 years after his first victory. Mario Cipollini makes headlines at the start of the Giro in 2002
Photo: © Tim de Waele/TDW Sport.
Once upon a time, Mario Cipollini would travel to Tour de France start-lines in a roman chariot, dressed as Julius Caesar, or chased by a pride of pantomime lions. That was when he was a rider - and of course Cipollini, infamously, never made it to the Champs Elysées during a career that yielded 191 victories, including a record 42 Giro stages and 12 in the Tour. So perhaps the unfamiliarity of the surroundings explains why he cut such a sheepish figure, lurking not far from the Arc de Triomphe on the final day of the 2014 Grande Boucle, not a laurel wreath or toga in sight. Following positives from both Valentin and Maxim Iglinskiy, the Astana team have had to self-suspend themselves from the Tour of Beijing to meet MPCC rules and will incur a fine from the UCI of up to $100,000 as a result of not attending the WorldTour’s final race. (cyclingquotes.com)

"Road cycling season is done and dusted. If that makes you sad: get over it. It's time for cyclocross! No silly three hour 'peloton controlling the break', no 'why thank you I like my seventh place in this grand tour just fine.' Just sixty minutes of muddy madness." (podiumcafe.com)

Photo: It’s time for cycling to step out of its comfort zone and move forward and be open to these people who want to bring new energy in and a different approach.
After Vincenzo Nibali dismissed Oleg Tinkov’s idea of all four of cycling’s best Grand Tour riders competing in all three Grand Tours in one season, Michael Rogers takes a different view, insisting that Oleg’s idea may be key to cycling remaining in the public eye. (cyclingquotes.com)

Photo: The Giro’s route for 2015 was announced earlier this week and one highlight is the Colle delle Finestre, the highest point of the 2015 Giro and unpaved too. What’s it like to ride?
The Route: there are two sides and this is the northern side from Susa, the Giro route which allows you to climb the unpaved section and descend on tarmac. It is 18.6km at an average of 9.1%. After Susa, follow the signs for Meana and the Colle delle Finestre. (inrng.com)
