“I did everything I could. I raced to the best of ability. As a team, we really pushed together. I don’t think any of us has any regret. Alberto [Contador] was really impressive in this Vuelta. If I’ve learned anything about racing against him, it’s to not let him get any time because I might never get that time back.” (cyclingweekly.co.uk)

"Lugged steel road frames are more typically found at NAHBS than Interbike these days. So it was refreshing to see one, especially one with as storied a background as the Masi Gran Criterium. Haro continues to guide the brand here in the U.S. and the product manager is a dyed-in-the-wool roadie. To my knowledge, the bike is still using the same lugs and tubes as it did back in the ’70s." At times, the early part of the season seemed like little more than a game of long-distance one-upmanship between Chris Froome and Alberto Contador. Froome won the Tour of Oman on the same weekend that Contador claimed a stage at the Volta ao Algarve. The Spaniard went on to win Tirreno-Adriatico and the Tour of the Basque Country, so Froome responded firmly with (an ultimately controversial) victory at the Tour de Romandie. (cyclingnews.com)

Even before a bidon was chucked over the spectators heads in thirst-crazed desperation, the 2014 Vuelta a España (or The Veluta, as it’s endearingly known in my part of the world) was dubbed as the most exciting Grand Tour of 2014. (pezcyclingnews.com)
