Geraint Thomas hopes to close out his season with strong performances at the World Championships after what has been a long but successful season. The 28-year-old could have missed out on Worlds selection after a nasty crash stopped him from training but he will line up for Team Sky in Sunday's team time trial and then race again the following weekend in the men’s elite road race for Great Britain. Pino Cerami, oldest Tour-stage winner since WWII, dies at 92.

Cerami, who was born in Italy but emigrated to Belgium and attained Belgian nationality in 1956, won the ninth stage of the 1963 Tour de France at the age of 41 years and three months. The Luxemburg national team have found themselves in huge difficulties ahead of the World Championship road race held in Ponferrada on September 28. Jempy Drucker was expected to line-up in the event after both Bob Jungels and Frank Schleck were forced to withdraw, but thr Wanty-Groupe Gobert rider openly claimed to be offended by not being initially selected and thus refused to participate.
