Photo: What was significant about that result was that they were the three main protagonists back in April during the Ardennes Classics...
Whatever else Michal Kwiatkowski may do during his career he will always be a world champion, a box Simon Gerrans and Alejandro Valverde have yet to tick.  However, the veteran pair have vowed to keep the dream alive and take it up to the youngster over the next three years, making him earn any future victories. Twelve months ago, Joaquim Rodriguez' tears on the podium of the Firenze World Championships expressed better than anything how his best ever chance of taking gold had somehow slipped through his fingers. Fast forward a year to Ponferrada, and Rodriguez reaction after the Worlds could not have been more different. Despite finishing 33rd, Rodriguez was clearly satisfied with his race and how the Spanish team had performed collectively. (cyclingnews.com)

Forty years after founding Specialized, Mike Sinyard toasted Michal Kwiatkowski’s (Poland) win in the men’s road race at the World Championships as a landmark victory for the American bike brand. Kwiatkowski’s victory marked Specialized’s third world title on the road and although the Pole is set to race just once more this season – at the Tour of Lombardia – his bike supplier are busily putting the finishing touches to the new custom-paint job for his Tarmac. Cannondale marketing manager, Bill Ruddell said, “The team must be doing some special product testing,” seemingly unaware that Tim Johnson was testing a Lefty fork. Johnson would not confirm any of the particulars on the new fork, only saying, “I’ll tell you one thing, you have to ride this thing.” (velonews.com)

Rui Costa celebrates winning the 2014 Tour de Suisse.
Portugal’s Rui Costa closed a year of mixed fortunes in the rainbow jersey of World Champion on Sunday in Ponferrada, Spain. After winning in Florence last year, the 27-year-old joined Lampre-Merida for 2014 and began his rainbow run. His run as world champion was not as successful as it was for Mark Cavendish, but then the Briton sprints and has more opportunities to win. Costa did, however, win as much as 2012 Champion, Belgium’s Philippe Gilbert: once. (cyclingweekly.co.uk)

Photo: The energy saved and time gained from wearing a jersey that fits better – even the same jersey in one size smaller – was more significant than buying faster wheels worth thousands of Euro.
The major bike manufacturer Specialized has carried out some wind tunnel testing comparing the time gained and energy saved by a rider who wears a loose jersey and one who wears a tighter, or fitted jersey. The results apply to everyone; whether you’re a top domestic racer, a sportive rider or somebody who cycles simply for some exercise and has no goals beyond that. (stickybottle.com)

Photo: There was nothing to do at all. My brother was riding his bike, so I started to follow him.
Michał Kwiatkowski was born in the village of Działyn in Central Poland on 2 June 1990. Rural boredom seem to be a reason he started riding. His elder brother Radosław was good in the elite ranks and he wanted to copy, whether the wins or the cool looking kit that Radek brought home.

An Italian masterpiece is not the kind of thing you revise or update. No one is wondering when the Mona Lisa 2.0 is getting released or awaiting the launch of the new David SL. ‘Masterpiece’ is a term frequently used to refer to bikes but rarely deserved. (pelotonmagazine.com)
