Lampre-Merida's Niccolò Bonifazio won the second round of the Trittico Lombardo, the Coppa Agostoni, in a bunch sprint. Photo: He is very young and he will continue to get better,” Contador said of Quintana. “Perhaps Froome has a point in his favour in the time trial, he is very strong in that discipline.
Even though Alberto Contador has just concluded his highly successful Vuelta a Espana campaign, a victory in his home Grand Tour had a somewhat bittersweet taste after Tinkoff-Saxo leader had crashed out of the Tour de France, biggest objective of 2014 season. For that reason the 31-year old Spaniard has already the next edition of le Grande Boucle on his mind, where he expects Nairo Quintana and Chris Froome to be his biggest rivals..

Spanish national team coach Javier Minguez has published his final selection for the upcoming World Championships held in Ponferrada, Spain. Last year’s silver and bronze medalists are expected to lead the formidable nine-man roster, while Alberto Contador, Samuel Sanchez and Mikel Nieve have to be regarded most surprising absentees in the squad. If all good things come to an end then the only thing remaining is to pick the moment to quit. Jens Voigt is ending his career with an attack on the Hour Record, Cadel Evans is planning antipodean swansong and others are leaving the peloton like Thor Hushovd or David Millar. In June, Daryl Impey was on flying form, coming off a stage win in the Bayern Rundfahrt and looking forward to the Tour de France, where he would wear the jersey of the South African time trial champion, and maybe - if everything went right - once again wear the yellow jersey, which he had done the year before. Dimeo and Møller argue that the difference between Lance Armstrong and Bjarne Riis illustrates one of the problems with modern anti-doping efforts. While Armstrong is banned for life and stripped of all Tour titles, Riis, an admitted doper, is still listed in the records as a Tour winner. Photo: Tim De Waele | TDWsport.com.
Many people within pro cycling are now saying that the war on drugs in cycling appears to be won; the conventional wisdom is increasingly that “things have turned the corner.” It appears that we’ve had a clean winner of the Tour de France for the last four consecutive years. We argue that anti-doping has gone too far and now poses more of a threat to the spirit of athletic competition than a solution. (velonews.com)

British industrial designers John Abrahams and Ben Smith share a mutual contempt for carrying unwieldy bike locks.
