Flakemore edged out Ireland’s Ryan Mullan by less

September 22, 2014 On
a morning of steady rain in Ponferrada, Macey Stewart mastered
the treacherous conditions to land victory in the junior women’s time
trial at the World Championships, ahead of Denmark’s Pernille Mathiesen
and her fellow countrywoman Anna-Leeza
Hull. (cyclingnews.com)
September 22, 2014 As
he stepped on to the podium to receive his silver medal in the under 23
time trial at the UCI Road World Championships, Ryan Mullen was
still shaking his head in quiet disbelief. The Irishman had looked
every inch a world champion on the rain-soaked Ponferrada course, an
impression borne out at the two intermediate check points along the
route.
With 13 kilometers remaining, Mullen held a lead of 20 seconds over Australia's Campbell Flakemore and his remarkable average speed of 49.5kph seemed too imposing a bar for any of the late finishers to vault. (cyclingnews.com) September 22, 2014 The
future is now… and it looks a lot like the past with more strong time
trial performances from the Australians and Swiss. (pelotonmagazine.com)
September 22, 2014 Peter Sagan goes
into this weekend’s world championship road race looking to salvage a
season that has struggled to live up to his own high standards. After a
frustrating string of second places, Sagan will be hoping
he can get it right on Sunday. (cyclingnews.com)

in Belgium’s Steenbergcross, the pace was set high immediately, with
lots of big names sticking with the lead pace. First and second place
riders at CrossVegas, Sven
Nys and Lars
van der Haar, found themselves having to work up through
the field as Meeusen dictated the speed at the front..
September 22, 2014 Katie Compton had
better start than Saturday and quickly established herself at the front
of the Elite Women’s race. Gabby
Durrin again took the holeshot, but by the time they
reached the tricky Trek downhill section Compton was in the
lead with Caroline Mani,
Durrin,

on her wheel. (cxmagazine.com)
September 22, 2014 "Rewind
to August 2013 for a moment — after a 15-year career, I announced my
retirement from road racing at the Tour of Elk Grove in Chicago.
Although I was sad to say goodbye to so many women who had been my
teammates, friends, and competitors over the years, at the same time I
was excited about the upcoming cyclocross season. Although I had
announced my retirement from road, retirement from ’cross was still in
the distant future." (velonews.com)

wasn’t showing much in the way of new road stuff, so the big news was
that they’ve aggressively lowered their prices. This Ultegra Di2 TMR01
is now $6999 and while that ain’t cheeap, it is a significant reduction
on a bike with more technology than some phones. (redkiteprayer.com)

September 22, 2014 September 21, 2014 September 21, 2014 September 21, 2014 | With
Fabian Cancellara
and Taylor Phinney
being the notable absentees, the world’s greatest time triallists will
all be on the start line of the most important time trial of the year.
For everyone who specializes in the unique discipline, the World
Championships is a real highlight that gives them a shot at one of the
most coveted jerseys in cycling. Tony
Martin is gunning for a record-breaking fourth consecutive
win, Bradley Wiggins
hopes to fill an obvious gap on his palmares and young guns Adriano Malori and Tom Dumoulin want to
prove that they now belong to the real elite and the fierce competition
will only add more prestige to an already highly prestigious event.

September 22, 2014 Robin Carpenter took
everybody by surprise when he held off the favourites to win a stage of
the USA Pro Challenge on a very cold and rainy day in Colorado. Now in
Ponferrada for the U23 Worlds, the American sees himself as a dark
horse for Friday’s road race. (cyclingquotes.com)
September 22, 2014 Ryan Trebon has been
sidelined from racing cyclo-cross after fracturing three ribs and two
vertebrae in a crash while racing locally in Washington earlier this
month. The Cannondale Cyclocrossworld.com rider is hoping to make a
quick recovery and even has his sights set on winning the national
title at the USA Cycling Cyclo-cross Championships held in January in
Austin, Texas. (cyclingnews.com)
September 22, 2014 Specialized
announced Monday that it will shift its sponsorship focus to the
Boels-Dolmans Women’s Cycling Team for 2015. The brand will step back
from its title-sponsor role with Velocio Sports’ Specialized-Lululemon
squad, the top American women’s team in 2014 and the winning team of
the world time trial championship on Sunday in Ponferrada, Spain.

September 22, 2014 German
Tony Martin
will put the disappointment of losing the team time trial behind him
and will focus on winning a record-equalling fourth individual title on
Wednesday in Spain. After Omega Pharma Quick Step won the 2012
and 2013 TTT titles, all that Martin
and the team could manage was a bronze medal ride behind BMC Racing and
Orica-GreenEdge on Sunday. (velonews.com)
September 22, 2014 Belkin
goes into Omloop van het Houtland with a two-pronged attack. The race
is likely to end in a bunch sprint in which the Dutch team will play
either the Moreno Hofland
or the Theo Bos
card. (cyclingquotes.com)
September 22, 2014 When
Tinkoff-Saxo announced that they had signed Peter Sagan, one of
the obvious questions was whether the Slovakian can co-exist with Alberto Contador on
the Tour de France team. Now manager Bjarne Riis tells
CyclingQuotes that the Slovakian won’t actively chase the green jersey
and mainly focus on stage wins in the world’s biggest race.

Elite road race, with back to back victories at the Memorial Pantani

design with their ‘honey infused bamboo bicycles‘. following the
success of this popular material, the singapore firm has launched the
‘build it yourself (BIY) bike kit’. (designboom.com)
September 22, 2014 The
riding at demo days at most bike shows leaves a lot to be desired, but
the Expobici show in Italy is an exception. Located in Galzignano Terme
in Euganean Hills south of Padova (Padua), the road riding is
exquisite, on narrow, winding, and lightly-traveled roads through these
hills known for their thermal baths. And the mountain biking trails
feature considerable technical difficulty and a very high fun factor.

September 22, 2014 September 21, 2014 | September 22, 2014 The
United States Olympic Committee announced Monday that Lucas Euser has been
selected to receive the Jack Kelly Fair Play Award presented by BP, one
of four annual awards that will be presented at a celebratory dinner
during the 2014 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Assembly, Sept. 25-26, at
the Hilton Chicago. (velonews.com)
September 22, 2014 Roman Kreuziger’s
been cleared by the Czech Olympic Committee’s arbitration panel. Fair
verdict or whitewash? For now it’s hard to tell as the reasoned
decision is online as a PDF but in Czech and so a hard read. What we do
know from the past is that the UCI has appealed past cases of “home”
federations or anti-doping bodies clearing their riders. I suspect
they’ll take the case to the CAS but that’s
guessing. (inrng.com)
September 22, 2014 Roman Kreuziger has
been cleared of any anti-doping violations by the Czech Olympic
Committee (CAC). Kreuziger
had been provisionally suspended by the UCI after registering anomalies
in his blood passport earlier this season. (cyclingnews.com)
September 22, 2014 Six-rider
team racing for Howes:
Although the USA team for the UCI Road World Championships elite men's
road race has only six members, it could be the most cohesive unit the
country has put together for the race in years. With Alex Howes as the
likely team leader, and Andrew
Talansky, Tejay
van Garderen, Brent
Bookwalter, Kiel
Reijnen and Eric
Marcotte in support positions, the team represents a
generational shift when compared with past teams. (cyclingnews.com)
September 22, 2014 Tyler Farrar is
“disappointed” he won’t be racing next weekend in northern Spain for
the elite men’s road cycling world championships. With the U.S. men’s
team down to six riders for the road race, instead of the nine maximum
for top-ranked nations, Farrar
was squeezed out for selection.
September 22, 2014 Thor Hushovd retired
on Saturday after completing the GP Impanis-Van Petegem, which won by
his BMC team-mate Greg
van Avermaet. The 2010 world champion and winner of ten
stages of the Tour de France put an end to a 27 year long career! Jean-François Quénet
looks back at his history as a young rider. (cyclingnews.com)
September 22, 2014 Fabian
Cancellara hesitated when the question was put to him, and then smiled
sheepishly. The Swiss rider had just led his Trek Factory Racing squad
to 7th place in the team time trial at the World Championships, but had
he lined up in the event by choice or out of obligation?

September 22, 2014 Former
pro cyclist Greg LeMond
summed up cycling progress succinctly: “It never gets easier, you just
go faster.” What he meant was that all the hard training is not so that
you can sit back and cruise when your goal event arrives, but so that
on the big day you can deliver the best ride of your
life. (bikeradar.com)
September 22, 2014 The Movistar team
has announced that Britain's Alex
Dowsett will stay with the Spanish team for the next three
seasons. The 25-year-old secured his future with an excellent series of
results during the 2014 season after winning the time trial at the 2013
Giro d'Italia. Dowsett
took two victories in 2014: the time trial stage at the Circuit de la
Sarthe, which he led for one stage, and won gold in the Commonwealth
Games time trial in Glasgow.. (cyclingnews.com)
September 22, 2014 Drop
bars are known for providing additional hand positions when compared to
the standard flat bar, but BP4 seems to be taking that notion to new
heights (drops). While many companies are experimenting with different
reach, bends, and sweeps, BP4 is adding another dimension to road
handlebars – top drops. The admittedly strange looking handlebars drop
down where a road bar would typically be flat. The resulting hand
positions are claimed to be an improvement over standard bars in both
aerodynamics, performance, and comfort. (bikerumor.com)

Cycling has a lot going on, as much with new products as with new
concepts for the sale and use of them. Starting with the small stuff,
they’ll now offer sizing guides to all retailers and online that
complement the mix-and-match nature of their road components.
