After winning the Tour de France with Vincenzo Nibali, Astana is ending the season on a sour note thanks to the Maxim Iglinskiy doping case. The Kazakh team is likely to hit the brakes early instead of finishing the WorldTour, which concludes October 10-14 with the Tour of Beijing. Its last major appointment could be Sunday at Il Lombardia, the monument that closes out the big one-day race season. (velonews.com) .

Damiano Cunego has signed with the Nippo-Vini Fantini team for the next two seasons, bringing the curtain down on his lengthy spell at Lampre. Although the 2004 Giro d’Italia winner had struggled to attract interest from WorldTour teams, his arrival marks something of a coup for Nippo-Vini Fantini, which operated as a Continental team this year but will make the step up to Pro Continental level in 2015.
