Photo: While he lost the Japan Cup result, he was able to return to racing and lined out in Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Although he was a non-finisher there, he went on to compete in the Giro d’Italia and took two stage victories.
Sidelined for several months this season as a result of his positive test for clenbuterol at last year’s Japan Cup, Tinkoff Saxo rider Mick Rogers has said that while his suspension – later reversed by the UCI – was a very stressful period, that it ultimately made him a much better rider.
The Australian told CyclingTips that the period led to a complete re-evaluation of his mental and physical approach to cycling, with the enforced break from competition giving him time to reflect, to rethink how he had traditionally done things and to tackle the demands of cycling in a different way. Tyler Farrar won the third stage of the Tour of Beijing on Sunday, ending a season-long victory drought at the final WorldTour race of the year.
The longest stage of the tour, the 176km stage served up tricky climbs followed by rapid descents, and Farrar came out of nowhere near the end to take the victory. (velonews.com)

After a long road season it is advisable to take a break as much to rest the mind as the body. It depends on which discipline is your priority whether you decide to take a break now or after the cross season. (cyclingtips.com.au)

Photo: In a race like today it’s a difference in depth. The depth of under 23 to WorldTour level is huge and he is realising that here but it is all a learning experience...
Caleb Ewan got the perfect lead-out in today's stage of the Tour of Beijing but the Australian faded back and finished the stage in 10th. Orica-GreenEDGE don't see the result as a failure as the 20-year-old Australian is still in a learning process. (cyclingquotes.com)

At last he could say. After weeks of silence, Wout Poels confirmed last week what everyone already knew: Team Sky is his new employer. The Weekend Interview with the 27-year old Dutchman explains his choice.

The Coppa Italia, a series of Italian races ranked HC or 1, wrapped up with the GP Bruno Beghelli today. Sonny Colbrelli won the overall individual classification and, perhaps most importantly, the team classification went to Neri Sottoli, who beat Bardiani CSF by a single point. The top overall team in the series is given a wildcard invitation to the Giro d'Italia the following season, but Neri Sottoli's win has come under question by the competing team managers. Trek Factory Racing is following the lead of the Belgians, by launching a feeder team. Omega Pharma-Quick Step and Lotto Belisol both have one as do Giant-Shimano and Topsport Vlaanderen has long been a proving ground for young Belgians looking to move into the WorldTour. (cyclingquotes.com)

The final round of the 2014 Red Hook Criterium Championship Series was held on a fast and narrow road circuit in the suburbs of Milan, Italy. Rain in the morning meant isolated patches of damp, and slippery painted road markings lay in wait to punish anyone pushing too hard before a dry line had been given time to develop. When was the race won? In the final sprint for the literal explanation but Thomas Voeckler was easily beaten. He went into the finish with no theatrics, stunts or even facial expressions. The image above shows the Europcar rider and Jelle Wallays of Topsport Vlaanderen-Baloise racing with less than 10km to go. Voeckler is hunched low and straining to produce the power and the more the closer the finish got, the more a win would become elusive. (inrng.com)

With his victory in Paris-Tours, Topsport Vlaanderen's Jelle Wallays wrote himself into the record books as the first rider to win both the U23 version of the race and the elite event, but more importantly for the Belgian, he finally showed his promise after years of frustration. The 25-year-old had just signed his first pro contract with Topsport Vlaanderen when he won the U23 Paris-Tours in 2010, and hopes this year's victory will demonstrate his talent to the WorldTour teams. The third Taiwan KOM Challenge is on the 15th of November, 2014 and it is one amazing race. The KOM Challenge is the high point of the Taiwan government-supported ‘Taiwan Cycling Festival’ and is a true high mountain challenge. It’s brutal, but has a beauty all of its own. (pezcyclingnews.com)

Before the last lap, Mani pounced at the right time, clenching her teeth in the last remaining climbs. Rochette was able to trail behind her, riding well through many of the more demanding descents, but Mani put in too much of a gap in the climbs, and got to the finish line alone. (cxmagazine.com)
