October 31, 2014 The
elite women’s event took place in a cold, drizzling rain at Harbin Park
in Cincinnati. From the gun, a chain mishap sent Katie Compton to
the back of the field and running for the pits. Katerina Nash took
full advantage and stretched her lead to 25 seconds for the win over
teammate Maghalie
Rochette.
The cold front moved into the area as the men took the start. With the temperature plummeting to 41 degrees, Danny Summerhill found solid lines in the disintegrating muddy corners. (velonews.com) October 31, 2014 The
USA Pro Challenge will add a multi-day race for women that will be held
in conjunction with the professional men’s stage race during the 2015
edition next August.
The event’s CEO Shawn Hunter expects the inaugural women’s edition to attract the best female racers in the world and include a parcours that uses many of the same roads as the men’s race. (cyclingnews.com) October 31, 2014 Matthias Brändle is
the man of the hour after setting the new hour mark Wednesday on the
UCI’s track in Aigle, Switzerland, but little is known about team IAM
Cycling’s Austrian.
“Why did I choose to do this?” Brändle asked himself midway through his 51.852-kilometer ride. “Every pedal stroke felt harder and harder toward the end of the hour.”. (velonews.com) October 31, 2014 Calvin Watson may
have just ended his neo-pro season with Trek Factory Racing at the Tour
of Beijing but the 21-year-old is already looking ahead to 2015 with
the WorldTour team. After a long season that saw Watson compete in
both the first and last races of the WorldTour calendar, the Australian
is in the midst of enjoying a well-earned break. (cyclingnews.com)

Sagan launched a limited range of casual shirts earlier
this year, designed in conjunction with former Tour of Britain winner Geoffroy Lequatre.
Lequatre’s G4 clothing company has produced two shirts – a men’s polo shirt in blue and a women’s T-shirt in pink. The shirts feature the outline of Sagan’s face represented in flowers. The back of the shirts feature a motif including the Slovak star’s signature and year of birth. (cyclingweekly.co.uk) October 31, 2014 "The
Canyon Aeroad CF SLX is the bike that propelled Alexander Kristoff
to victory in two stages of the 2014 Tour de France. We take a first
look at the new range of German aero machines.
Every year, a handful of manufacturers present their fastest, lightest, and usually most expensive new bikes just before the start of the Tour de France. This year, in Yorkshire, it was Canyon making jaws drop with its new Aeroad CF SLX — and now we’ve got one here at Cycling Weekly." (cyclingweekly.co.uk) October 31, 2014 | We’ve
heard quite a few claims in recent months. That Pantani was not
alone prior to his death. That Pantani
was murdered by persons unknown, who forced him to drink a lethal
concoction of cocaine of water. That Pantani was somehow,
unjustly, framed during the 1999 Giro d’Italia, his expulsion for a
high haematocrit part of a nefarious plot. That the mafia were linked
to this, somehow influencing the doping testers in order to spare
themselves financial disaster from sporting bets. (cyclingtips.com.au)
Sven Nys starts Saturday's Koppenbergcross wearing number
one as he chases a tenth victory in the prestigious Belgian race that
covers a section of the cobbles often used in the Tour of Flanders road
race.
The cyclo-cross season traditional steps up a gear during the All
Saints weekend, with huge crowds attending the Koppenbergcross on
Saturday and then Sunday's Superprestige Zonhoven event. Both events
will also include women's races with the Koppenbergcross offering equal
prize money in the elite men and elite women races thanks to extra
sponsorship from GP Twenty20 Cycles in the USA.

October 31, 2014 The
justice department of Leuven wants to persecute doctor Chris Mertens. After
more then 2,5 years, the justice department finally finished its
investigation of doping practices of the doctor. Mertens is accused
of blood transfusions with ozone and actively inciting riders to doping
use. (cyclingquotes.com)
October 31, 2014 Edvald Boasson Hagen
may be re-born for the 2015 season after leaving Sky for a fresh start
at Africa’s MTN-Qhubeka team.
“We signed Tyler Farrar and Matt Goss, as well. These riders are not lost souls,” Team Principal Doug Ryder told Cycling Weekly. “[Gerald] Ciolek was inspired by our team to ride better. Our team is motivating and inspiring, and it does get the best out of people. That’s what these guys have seen and why they are attracted to our team.” (cyclingweekly.co.uk) October 31, 2014 Featuring

October 30, 2014 | October 31, 2014 A
weather forecast that includes the chance of freezing rain and possibly
snow has forced organizers of the inaugural Bookwalter Binge Gran Fondo
to change the schedule for Saturday's ride in Black Mountain, N.C.
Instead of offering rides on courses of 83, 30 or 6.7 miles, only the 30 and 6.7-mile routes will be available and the starting time for each has been changed. Riders for both distances will now go off at 10 a.m. and prizes will still be awarded to king and queen of the mountain winners. Organizer Brent Bookwalter said his own experience of competing in adverse weather for the BMC Racing Team factored into the decision. (bookwalterbinge.com) October 31, 2014 The
possibility that the sport could lose one of its most promising young
climbing talents has abated with confirmation that Lachlan Morton will
remain a professional cyclist in 2015.
The Australian said last month that he wanted to step back from the WorldTour level, saying that he had had enough. “I’m looking elsewhere – I want to have some fun racing next year,” Morton said, when asked if he hoped to remain with his Garmin-Sharp team. (cyclingtips.com.au) October 31, 2014 Less
than three weeks after USA Cycling fired its longtime technical
director Shawn Farrell,
personnel changes continue at the national federation
On Thursday, the federation sent out a brief email announcing that Bill Kellick, director of communications, had “resigned his position to move on to new opportunities in his career,” asking that all media inquiries be directed to communications manager Kevin Loughery. (velonews.com) The
Bontrager TLR Flash Charger floor pump is the forehead slapper of the
year. Everyone says the same thing, “why didn’t I think of that?”
It’s brilliant because it solves one of the greatest problems with modern mountain bikes. All of us want to ride tubeless tires all the time, but setting them up can be a pain, at least without a heavy compressor. The Flash Charger is a remedy and, best of all, it’s portable. October 31, 2014 At
the Canadian National Championships last weekend, Cyclocross Magazine
was treated to spectate an old world cyclocross course of cobblestones
and alleys with nearby shops. Gabby Durrin told us that although
Winnipeg hosted quite an urban course, it reminded her of the race in
Diegem.
Perhaps it was appropriate that we got our first in-person look at Eddy Merckx’s Eeklo70 in this setting. Just like the cyclocross course in Winnipeg, the traditional meets the urban with the Eeklo frame. (cxmagazine.com) October 31, 2014 "How
many parts does your bike have? You can start counting the wheels,
frame, bars, pedals and so on but it’s all the small pieces you forget
about. Take the seatpost, it’s got clamping bits, bolts, fasteners and
washers. Even a headset can have ten more component pieces when if you
include any spacers and the compression nut and that’s before you count
the individual ball bearings. The point is that even the lightest race
bike is made up of a very large number of parts. Too much? That’s for
later but first the book review." (inrng.com)
