Nairo Quintana was
all smiles last week at a four-day Movistar team camp, but he’s been
gritting his teeth with a slow recovery from shoulder surgery in
September.
The Colombian superstar came down with tendonitis in his right arm in the wake of a complicated recovery from surgery, following his early exit from the Vuelta a España on September 3. “I am still not 100 percent, and I still recovering, but it’s getting much better now. I came down with a little bit of tendonitis, and have been barely able to train,” Quintana told VeloNews. “In terms of the fracture, that has fully recovered.” (velonews.com) November 27, 2014

November 27, 2014 "This
week I am working on writing articles based on our recent adventures in
Japan, while they still are fresh in my memory. And while cycling to
1200-year-old Onsen hot springs during a typhoon certainly was
memorable, I was reminded last weekend that great rides also can be
found close to home." (janheine.wordpress.com)
November 27, 2014 Unless
you happen to be particularly fond of wind tunnel charts, bike launches
can be a somewhat tedious process. So here, at the launch of the 2015
Cannondale Slice, despite the gorgeous setting in a seafront house on
Ali’i Drive in Kona, Hawaii, we’re bracing ourselves for the standard
torrent of unexciting aerodynamic information and marketing claims. But
it never arrives.
Much to our surprise and delight, Cannondale has taken a different approach to its update of the Slice – the original version of which won Ironman World Championships in the custody of Mirinda Carfrae and Chrissie Wellington – and it’s a much more triathlete-friendly and, more importantly, age-grouper friendly one. verdict: 5 out of 5
stars. "Versatile, stable and faster than most of the competition."

| The
Canadian Center for Ethics in Sport (CCES) announced on Thursday that William Goodfellow
has received a two-year sanction for an anti-doping rule violation.
The Quebec-native, who competed with the Canadian Continental team Silber Pro Cycling this year, tested positive for the presence of clenbuterol and darbepoetin in his urine after a sample was collected during an in-competition doping control on August 24, 2014. (cyclingnews.com) November 27, 2014 The
UCI is expected to finally name the WorldTour teams registered for the
2015 season in early December after the completion of the audit of
teams' finances, rider contracts and ethics.
A spokesperson for the UCI told Cyclingnews that the teams will be officially confirmed between Monday, December 8, and Wednesday, December 10. The UCI is also expected to name the Professional Continental teams registered for 2015. (cyclingnews.com) November 27, 2014 Since
he retired from his successful racing career more than a decade ago, Jonathan Vaughters
has been one of the most innovative (and successful) team managers in
professional cycling. After starting out with a developmental team in
2003, he later instituted a strict anti-doping policy at Slipstream
Sports with an internal blood-testing program that far exceeded the
then requirements of the Union Cycliste Internationale.

November 27, 2014 A
new women’s race will run alongside the men’s Tour Down Under in
Australia in January, the event’s organizer announced on Thursday.
The Santos Women’s Tour builds on the success of the previously run Santos Women’s Cup, and runs for four days over January 17-20 in and around Adelaide. The event will be part of the Subaru National Road Series. (cyclingweekly.co.uk) November 27, 2014 Dramatic
weather and exciting racing will converge on Sterling, Massachusetts
this weekend, where Baystate Cyclocross Weekend will be Rounds 5 and 6
of the Verge New England Cyclocross Series presented by Stan’s NoTubes
and Cycle-Smart.
Deep snow and mud appear likely to play a large part in how these races play out on November 29 and 30. Renowned course designer Tom Stevens’s characteristically challenging courses feature off-cambers, tough run-ups, and steep downhill chutes. Baystate features plenty of pedaling sections, twisting corners, and enough technical riding to challenge even the top-tier pros. (cxmagazine.com) November 27, 2014 Although
third in line behind SRAM Red and Force, Rival mirrors virtually all
the performance, design, and durability standards of its pricier
siblings, it just weighs more and costs less. It’s this
cost-effectiveness that makes it a great choice for a cyclocross ‘B’
bike, training bike, or even a thoroughly competent race bike.

November 27, 2014 | November 27, 2014 Alexandre Vinokourov
has reportedly suspended the Astana Continental team following the
fifth doping case in the Kazakhstani teams but is confident the
WorldTour Astana team will obtain a UCI license for the 2015 season.
On Wednesday the UCI announced that Artur Fedosseyev had tested positive for an anabolic androgenic steroids. Fedosseyev's positive test is the fifth doping case in just three months for Kazakhstani cycling, all coming from the Astana teams that include the WorldTour team of Tour de France winner Vincenzo Nibali and the Continental development team. (cyclingnews.com) November 27, 2014 The
reactions of cycling fans and the media to the spate of Astana-team
positives have been clear to those following the news on twitter and in
reports, but another group which has been more affected has been
relatively silent thus far.
However Canadian pro rider Michael Woods has made his feelings clear on his Rustywoods blog, saying that the third of the five positive tests affecting the Astana WorldTour and Pro Continental teams this year grates significantly. (cyclingtips.com.au) November 27, 2014 He
chats about pregnancy tests, his dislike of green cycling kits (sorry
to Belkin then, but thanks for the misleading title of this post) and,
when asked whether he’ll spend his retirement riding around his home
town snaffling everyone Strava KOMs, he says:
“I’d rather spend my time riding my bike than talking about riding my bike.” Much unlike the vast majority of ‘cyclists’, then [cough]. (crankpunk.com) November 27, 2014 Mining
chemicals and explosives company Orica has announced a two-year renewal
of its title sponsorship of the Australian Orica-GreenEdge WorldTour
team and women’s Orica-AIS squad.
The deal will see Orica continue to headline both teams through the 2015 and 2016 seasons. (cyclingweekly.co.uk) November 27, 2014 Former
rider Tom Southam
has replaced Henk Vogels
as sports director at the Australian Drapac Professional Cycling team.
Southam, who rode for the team in 2007, moves from his current position as media officer and part time sports director at Rapha Condor JLT, while Vogels has decided to step away from the sport and spend more time with his family. Southam will move to Australia on a permanent basis later this week as the team looks to build a stronger squad for the start of the Australian road season. (cyclingnews.com) November 27, 2014 If
