Wout Van Aert captured the biggest win of his season at the elite men's World Cup in Koksijde in Belgium on Saturday. The young Belgian rider, 19, dominated the race with a solo win by 42 seconds ahead of Kevin Pauwels and 53 seconds ahead of Mathieu van der Poel, who was almost caught by a strong group of chasers who crossed the line three seconds later. Americans have a hard time with Koksijde, they said. The deep sand and brutal conditions are unlike anything in the United States, they said.
Looks like the sixteen-year-old American Gage Hecht was able to defy these detractors by taking the win this morning in the Koksijde Junior Race over Belgian favorites Gilles BorraAlessio Dhoore and Stefano Museeuw. (cxmagazine.com)

Mark Cavendish and Iljo Keisse took the lead on the fourth evening of racing at the Gent Six. The pair gained a lap on the rest of the field after breaching the 200-point mark, and taking victories in the elimination and derny races. Race favorites Jasper De Buyst and Kenny De Ketele fell down to third place, but could still move back into the lead if they earn a bonus lap for making 300 points. (cyclingnews.com)

Nairo Quintana (Movistar) takes the lead in the overall classification

Nairo Quintana believes that his team’s decision to partner the 2014 Giro d’Italia victor with his teammate Alejandro Valverde for next year’s Tour de France and Vuelta a España is a good move. Instead of splitting their calendars as they did in 2014 - where Quintana rode the Giro and Valverde was sent to the Tour, before they joined up at the Vuelta – Movistar will send their two top stage racers to the same two Grand Tours. James Huang / Immediate Media.
In mid-December the first BSXinsight wearable lactate threshold monitors will begin shipping. Announced back in March via a Kickstarter campaign, the US$369 devices slip inside a calf compression sleeve, where data is recorded for post-workout upload via a smartphone app. The end result, the company claims, is lactate threshold data that can inform training, previously only available to athletes via pin-prick blood tests done in medical centers and high-end training facilities. (bikeradar.com)

UCI president Brian Cookson has presented his re-worked plans for the reforms for cycling to race organizers in a meeting in Oudenaarde, Belgium. The reforms are set to come into effect in 2017 and hope to reduce the number of race days on the cycling calendar, which could see several organizers being forced to cut days from their events. Cookson is aware that he has a battle on his hands but remains confident of things going ahead as planned. (cyclingnews.com)

Kenny van Hummel has announced that he will retire from cycling after failing to secure a contract for the 2015 season. The Dutch sprinter was saved from retirement by Gianni Savio’s Androni Giocattoli-Venuzuela after the collapse of the Fernando Alonso team left him scrabbling for a contract late in the year. He took three victories with the team but a lack of funds meant that he found himself hunting for a new job once again. (cyclingnews.com)
